Which lockers are the best? I've been looking at ARB Air Lockers, Electric Locker, and OX Locker. I know some one on here runs one of these:D, I would like some advice or Pro's And Con's with any of these PLEASE!!

It's for my torn down 14 Bolt:(

Best just a locker around it the detroit. Its arguable that its any different than other brands for a 14b though seeing as how they deviated from their full carrier design for it.

I would say for a rig that will see the street you cant beet the arb though.

The electric lockers are looking pretty good if you wants something you can turn on and off depending on road conditions . MaxPF has been running some for well over a year in both his axles with no problems .

The OX is perhaps the best type in the terms of no air compressor or electric wiring . Its as simple as a choke cable in your dash is . All mechanical and if the cable broke you could crawl under the rig and unlock it by hand .

Personally , I prefer a hard locker , but then again I don't have to deal with snow outside the Phoenix area . I justy get in it and drive , wheel all day , and go home .

Where will it spend most of its time? I love my detroit, I had ARB's on a Jeep, and loved them, but was always nervous about the air lines.

For a 14bff, Detroit is the way to go. Mine has never given me any fuss. No Switches, air lines, and when it's locked, it's locked. Plus they are cheaper

I have a Detroit and love it. I have no problems in the snow and ice, but the long wheel base does help.

I think I will have a look at the Detroit I think that $845 for the ARB is a bit much and thats without a compressor.:eek1:
I wonder if the york air compressor (the ones off the old volvo's or sabbs) could be adapted to work.
Which detroit are you guys talking about? I cant seem to find one for my 14 Bolt. Correct me if im wrong but the FF 14 Bolt has a 10.5 ring gear and not the 9.5. The 9.5 is semi float?

Anyone run a mini spool in the front axle? As long as I dont use the 4WD the mini spool should have no effect on the street manners right?

My rig will see a mix of onroad and offroad.

I almost spooled my front 44 and man am I glad I didnt. Makes steering a nightmare with a locker let alone spooled or welded. I'd say your better off with an arb in the back and a detroit up front. That way when driven on the street it will feel like nothing is liked, binding, ratcheting or otherwize.

yeah steering with even a detroit true trac is a pain. on the street it feels like its binding, ratcheting like stomis said. and don't you mean a detroit out back and an arb in the front?

Nope I meant it the way I said it. I've read all over and even seen on extreme 4x4 to do it like that. That way when your hubs are unlocked and the lockers not on your rig drives completely open/open.

ive always heard vice versa and ive also heard of running arb's in both axles. the only time a detroit unlocks is when you go around corners, when your on the straight away it stays locked right?

I put my first locker in the front so that it would not effect the DD ability. I did not have to much trouble steering on the trail but 2,3,4,5 point turns were often had on small heep trails. Locker in front weels beter than locker in the rear in my opinion.
Detroit will lock up when ever you are on the gas, so if it is in the rear you need to get to the speed you want then coast through the turn. If you accelerate though the turn it will lock and scrub the tires.
I have since gone selectable on both ends and would never go back!

I hear what you are saying about the Detroit up front and ARB out back thing. However, the ability to easily unlock the front when on the trail and still be in 4x4 is very valuable to me. This allows for easier turning which would not be possible with a Detroit up front (unless you unlocked one hub). Being locked all the time up front would also increase the likelihood of breaking an axle and/or u-joint when needing to gas it with the steering at full lock.

I don’t necessarily disagree, depends on the kind of wheeling you do and how much $ you got to spend.
I was a HS student who slapped in an ez locker in the front, open diff needed to use ez which I had in the front, with a auburn in rear, was cheap and easy way to kill my heep buddies on the trail. I also shifted to 2wd for real tight turns.
If I loved my locker in the front so much I would have never went to a selectable, but it was the best option at the time. I have since sold the ez to someone on here and it is still getting used.
Now I have selectable in both and would never go back.
