ok so im trying to do a complete front brake job on my 75 jimmy and now im trying to remove the manual hubs ...
1. removed the allen screws
2. slid off the outer cover
3. removed the snap ring on the shaft ( like 1.5 inch snap ring )
4. Now what ?????? cant see any other thing to remove to make the hub assembly come off so i can get the the bearing nuts ( the ones you need the 4 prong socket for)

please help cause i dont wana pay a shop to do this

Ok heres what your missing. On the outer lip of the hub there is a retaining ring. You may have to scrape some grease/dirt out to see the thing because it can blend in some times.

Youll need either some picks or small screwdrivers. Its not the easiest thing to get out. There will be a break in the clip, you'll need to hold one end of the break and then pry the other up and forward. Once you realise where it is and how it works you'll understand. It can be a little bit of a bitch.

thank you maybe i just wasnt seeing said locking ring cause i was just scraching my head on that stupid thing ...

without that snapring would there be any strengh issues ... you would think so i dont see how a thin retaining clip could be enough to retain the hub properly

I would like to know this too. My friends dodge always had the snapring. He told me dodges had them chevys didnt and I thought he was right seeing as how niether my 10bolt or dana 44 ever had the snap ring. After going to the junkyard I found out different though, and now this.

here ya go. Both styles. One is a flat style snap ring and one is a round bar style. Just find the end with a pick or small flathead.

thank you guys for the pics i attempted to take it apart and complete my brake job last night and i found the ring ... took maybe 30 seconds to take it off wow mine were easy (picks are my friends) .... but i found my bearing nuts were only finger tight :o but bearings were still in good shape so after full cleanup and rebuild im good to go ..:D thanks to all who helped with this ring issue
