Im rebuilding my front axle now and had wanted to keep the stock auto hubs for ease of use. I dont wheel hard and 90% of the miles are on road so i liked having the auto hubs.
Well 4wd never worked, i figured it was a transfer case issue.
To make a long story short i tore it down and the auto hubs were trashed. So much of the small caged breaing in the cap was ground up, metal shavings had completely saturated the grease and wheel bearings.
A lot of the parts were chewed up, springs broken, keepers bent or cracked, the plastic cam piece was rashed. I calculated up the dollar value to repair the auto hubs and it exceeded the cost of the Warn premium hubs so i decided to not repair them. I got a set of the Warn premium hubs off e-bay for $85, shipping included. The more i read about the hubs, the more convinced i am that the manual hubs are the way to go.
