I'm running a 4L80E using the standalone controller by Opti-shift. One of the options allows me to lock up the converter in any gear. It is now set for 3rd

I'm thinking it would be great to have it lock up in 2nd. It would be good for trail riding, especially when pulling long grades at a slow speed. I think it would greatly reduce the heat in the trans.

I can think of all the pros but what about the Cons?

Or am I thinking way to much and just do it...

If I do it, the next step would be to figure out what speeds and how to make sure it doesn't shift to 3rd and lug the trans down and not lock the converter.

Since I am not familiar with the details of the optishift I will say this:
There is no con to locking up the converter in 2nd as long as you can drive it without lugging it, so as long as it could downshift or you can manually downshift, then go for it.

A low buck weekend racer trick for electronic lock up cars is to wire a 12v over ride to a ratchet shifter. You leave the line get up to about 20mph and lock up first, then leave it locked up and it bangs gears like a mother ****er with no shift kit.

Suppose to drastically improve ets keeping the stock converter.
