While talking with the mechanic at Martin spring & driveline shop today, I asked him about installing a lockright while he had the diff out of the housing (to replace the inner axle seals). He talked with his local distributor for them, and he said he was getting a lot of warranty replacements due to failure. He said if for occasional use on a stock truck they are fine, but add big power, and big tires, they break.

What's your take, and is anything else available to put in an open diff.
This is in my D60.

well in my mall crawling k20 they have held up to 38s and 600hp worth of stupidity in the 14ff. Nerraw117 has one in his D60 and he drives like a complete idiot and hasnt broken his yet. Hes running 39.5's and a tbi 350. I have heard of people breaking them, but when I get back to working on the CUCV thats probably what Im going to put in the front of it.

I've recently replaced the open diff with a traclock in my front D60. I'd honestly be more worried about the open diff case strength with one cross pin and a relatively thin carrier. The traclock case was noticeably thicker just about everywhere.

Cool, keep the confimations coming...maybe the rep was trying to push other carriers.

And Damn K20..............gimme a bigger pic of that cool long bed.
Man I miss mine sometimes.

I have one in my 60 - I drive like a crazy man and no problems yet. I have heard similar comments from a gear guy - but he said the 60 lock-right in front is the only one worth owning

im running 40's and have broken 2 joints and my lockrite is still working perfect.

pretty sure Sandman has one in his front 60, strong 454 and he is not kind to his stuff

I have seen several broken Detroits too

Lockrites in D60 and 14 bolts are pretty stout. IMO similar to detroit.
10 bolt lockrites have problems with larger tires. 33" are usually fine but any bigger and you will break them. Course the same thing can be said for 10 bolts.

I ran a Lockrite in my front 10 bolt with 35's and I broke the stock carrier case after several years of use. I broke several axle joints too. :doah:

The Lockrite held up great until I finally broke the front carrier which allowed the lockrite to slip and ramp the teeth to so it wouldn't grab anymore.

I'd use one again.

My LockRight is still going strong.

I think dollar for dollar, they are the best value in traction devices.

OK guys I'm sold again....now can you put that Lockright in a D60 without taking the ring gear off?

Nope - I had to pull the ring gear on mine - though I suppose it depends on what gears you are running, mine are 5.13s

i was able to slide the crosspin out of my 4.56 d60. i did it with the carrier still in there. it was definatley close though.

that sounds good, I'll give that a shot then.

I didnt pull my ring gear with my 4.56's, it was tight/tricky but i got it.
