First of all, does anyone else use them? The one I put in my K5 won't unlock around the corner. It acts more like a mini spool than a locker. I've had it apart a couple of times hoping to find some evidence of it binding or something, but none could be found. I've sold and installed several of these for myself and for customers and never had a problem. Any ideas?

I realize I should have just spent the money for a Detroit, but I've had such good success with these (and I've abused them mercilessly) that I couldn't justify it.

Specs:
14 bolt FF
4.56:1
37" Humvee tires

I am using one in my 14BFF and it is locking/unlocking just fine

I was told that as along as there is torque/power applied to that locker, it is locked in, when you let off the power, it unlocks.

Which is why i use it in my front axle over a welded up diff, i can keep my hubs locked while wheelin, and be able to turn with ease, but when 4wd is needed, i simply put the t-case in 4wd and when you hit the gas the locker locks up.

Look for dragging brakes, they will sometimes cause a lockright to keep engaged around corners.

did you leave the two side bearing thrust washer things in there, not sure what they are called, the first detroit I ever installed I did not take those out and it acted just like a spool, took everything apart took those washers out and it was fine

When I first put mine in, it didnt want to unlock either. Drove it anyway, and afte 10-15miles it started loosening up. The more I drove it, the better it got. Now you cant hardly hear it.

I have a lockright in my front axle and it works great. these "lunchbox" type auto lockers do not drive well in rear axles because they are designed to be locked under load and the rear is pretty much always under a load. make sure the tires match - same brand, size, pressure, & wear. you gotta coast in and out of turns, and light to no throttle in the turn. any sudden change will get it to either lock or unlock. lane changes on the freeway can be fun with a locked rear. Powertrax No Slip lockers are supposed to be better suited for rear applications because they have a syncro feature that help smooth the locking/unlocking of the unit.

You're supposed to leave them in a Lockright. I'm almost tempted to pull them out and try it though.
