I was pulling apart a dana44 that has a lock right installed. I was pulling the carrier when I noticed a damaged spring coming from the opening between the 2 halves. It is not one of the 4 that hold the pins in place. This spring was very fine with maybe 1/16" dia. coil by 3 or 4 inches long. It was also tension only not compression. I don't remember seeing a spring like this when I installed it. What would it be doing? Am I gonig to damage something more if I run it?

Thanks
Derb

Lockrights dont have springs like you have said. I put one in my 10 bolt (which is almost identical to the dana 44) and there was no spring aside from the 4 small ones. Sounds more like a gov-lock or limited slip to me....

That was my thoughts that lockrights don't have springs like that. As I was just typing this I have had a revelation. The last time I ran this front end I broke an axle and the inner seal was destroyed hence the spring!!!! Sometimes I guess just talking about it stirs up your own answers.

Thanks Again

Ahh yes, there are 8 springs. 4 really small ones that go into 4 other small ones. Anyways....good thing you figured out what the spring was. All I knew was that lockrights dont have large springs like that, and if they do, then mine doesnt have one....
