Picked sum up today and trying it out. Anyone else use it? Found some nasty rust on my drivers side door seal, where the weather stripping on the frame of the truck goes. wasnt happy to find that.

I have used it from time to time over the years. It works OK. Its basically a mix of phosphoric and sulfuric acids with some additives to make it pleasant and jelly like.

If you are able to wash it off well, there should be no problem. It works faster if the metal is warm and so is the weather.

There is no protective action afterwards, so be ready to do something with the clean metal.
Otherwise, it will start rusting fairly quickly.
Just a wipe with some oil will do for a while. Otherwise, have some primer ready to spritz on.

The straight rust converter, the name escapes me right now, but its a green liquid and is straight phosphoric acid, does not remove the rust, but converts it to steel phosphate.
The result is black and more stable than the rust.
But still has to be painted or sealed in some way.

"Ospho" Knew it would come to me.

and Loctite isn't the original manny from yr's ago.. I guess they bought em out in recent times...

I think Dupont originally made Naval Jelly?..

I have used Duro/Locktite "Extend" to convert rust to a black primer type substance that resists further rusting with good success--other similar stuff is available in other brands like Rustoleum "Rust Reformer",its a milky latex type stuff that dries clear after the rust is converted to the black primer..I used that on rusty spots around my vans windshield and other window frames that were all bubbled up and crisp, never topcoated some of the spots ,and they never rusted any further..

I have used other body shop type rust converters like Moroton's "Rust-Mort" and Mar-Hyde has a similar product that both worked well--R-M paint used to sell a Phosphoric Acid spray stuff in a squirt bottle that worked well too..its best to cover the areas with paint or undercoating though, leaving it exposed to sun seems to degrade the "Extend" type of products..

Thanks,

hoping the weather clears some time this weekend so I can get on this project. got some nasty rust and want to stop it, clean up area and paint it.
