Long or short water pump?

I have lost my mind or something because I can't remember how to tell the difference between the two. Someone help me please.

The short water pump almost touches the timning cover and the long pump has about a 1 1/2" space between the backside of the water pump and the timing cover.

I think they stopped using the short in the late 60's or so.

'68 was the last year for the short pump on cars (except Corvette). Trucks used the short pump through the '72 model year.
