I’ve got a storage question and I KNOW I’m at the right place with the right people to ask LOL :haha:

If I’m looking to store the blazer for 10+ years, outside, what’s the best course of action? I’m probably going to dismount my 40s and toss them. Old already. Easier to store rims. I have small rollers it can go on otherwise jack stands might be better.

What’s the order of operation? :D
Thanks ya’ll

My driveway is a good solid place... Just leave the keys, and I'll keep it all lubed up and working for you till your ready :waytogo:

On a more serious note, I personally don't like long term storage under a car cover. Maybe block the windows out on the inside to keep sun off of stuff. Or even vinyl wrap them on the outside.
But car covers long term outside tend to chew through paint, hold moisture, and rust stuff like a vinyl top does.

You're in So Cal. Shade is #1. Any paint, plastic will get rotted in short order and then you will get rust. I've got a car here in AZ, that is rusty from sitting out. As soon as the paint was compromised that was it.

If you're gonna store it that long of a term, prob want to drain gas tank and carb. Brake lines may not be a bad idea, keep the lines from rusting, but calipers/cylinders will be trashed eventually - at least the fluid isn't pulling moisture in though.

Storage is easy....
The real question is what condition you expect the vehicle to be in ten years???

Outdoors - trashed in ten years.

Indoors - moisture controlled & run occasionally.... It will survive

I've been thinking about this again recently. I have not touched the truck since Sept '23. So that's old CA fuel in the tank and injectors.

Instead of giving up and dealing with the "trash" it becomes in 10 years, how about I do what I can to save some of it. Can't sell it for a reasonable price, may end up pulling engine/trans/efi for the Nova.

So......
I have sold the seats and tires so they don't rot.
I will move it with my rollers but probably better to store on jackstands.
I'll jump the fuel pump and empty the old fuel. What should I do with the tank and residual?
Throwing out fuel lines and clean filter/regulator.
Batteries already inside and trickle charging.
Empty the inside of tools and fluids.
Might pull soft top off and store inside.
It's got a canvas cover over the windshield and tube doors. Not worried about the paint.
If the soft top is off, stuff inside may end up rusting bad. Not sure the top is worth saving if it means the inside gets worse.
Differentials? Tcase? Engine and trans if I don't pull it out?

Right now I can't promise it ends up under the carport, I haven't built one yet :haha::doah:

Fellas?

My burb sat for 8 years did nothing special. Tires did rot, battery went bad. Fuel was low so added new fuel cranked over by hand a fee turns and fired it up. I'd leave the drive train in the truck until somebody wants them. I am always skeptical of an engine that is on the garage floor.

My 2 cents - Why not keep it under a cover, with battery tender, and pull cover every couple weeks to let it breathe and start it up to let it warm. Keeps your investment “active” and keeps fluids and seals “fresh” and prevents anything from building up. Protect your investment. If you do sell powertrain, it will be very easy for someone to come check it out and start it up. 15min every 2 weeks, all you need (frankly start it and walk away and come back in 10min)

I do that with my blazer every winter from November to end of March/April.

Ten years? At least treat it like a boat, winterize, fog cylinders, fuel stabilizer, cover (maybe even get a marina to shrink wrap then a cover?).
Probably better to let someone use it or at least pay them to crank/run periodically.

But hey, this might be the only way I could afford the prices barn finds seem to go for these days. I could put one in the barn (ok, there's one there already) and "find" it in ten years!

I know what you mean.
I have a couple that have been in a protected storage for 20 years.
Plan is to get one out next spring

I have pulled many trucks out of fields after being parked for 10-20 years with nothing done to prep them for storage. It usually costs $2000 and up to go through the mechanical systems to get them back to functional but not perfect (tires, brakes, fluids/ filters, etc). That is before dealing with rodents, rust ect.
