Long term update on welded 14 bolt.

Well, I guess a better explanation would be that if a part is designed to have slop in it then it would be okay. The spider gears are designed to bacially roll over each other instead of just hitting head on.

Another factor to consider is that even though only the weld is showing obvious wear, I'm sure the side gears that are constantly hitting the weld in the same place are also getting wear which could lead to issues if anyone ever wanted to go back to an open diff and re-use these same parts (which is basically the main reason for doing it this way to begin with).
 
My side gears are done...so instead of swapping the open carrier back in I'm swapping my new 14 bolt in. With the open spiders back in the carrier it doesn't want to spin smoothly due to the tooth damage on the side gears...
