I noticed Longfields D60 shafts are not on the website anymore. Bobby directed me here:

Wonder why he doesn't carry them anymore. Look easy to rebuild and service from the few vids you can view. I wonder how well that rubber boot keeps out wet gritty sloppy mud/sand.

you were the first person i thought of when i read the title of the thread.
My guess - after the Az crew (I broke one and damaged another - Robzilla broke 2)broke/damaged 4 and he had to buy back one set (from Rob) plus alot of other issues with them - he didn't wanna deal with them any more.......http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=248483 http://locooffroad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2745&highlight=longfield (sorry - pics still down on Loco - site got hacked a while back and still isn't back to normal yet)

Wow, I thought these were supposed to be the "end all" of axle shafts. I almost bought some last spring, glad I bought a big TV instead. :D

There are some "design" problems...... The shafts that have been broken, here in AZ were due to the outer snap ring groove being in the "wrong" location. On mine there was a approx. 3/8 inch gap between the snap ring and the face of the Warn hub, and that was allowing the shaft to walk back, into the housing, then when turning my sad 38 degrees the cv would have to "turn" more to match the spindle angle, causing "oversteer damage" (according to Bobby Long) I fixed mine by making a spacer that keeps the shaft properly seated out, up against the spindle. I stll love my CVs - you just gotta make sure they are set up correctly!

Anything is breakable. It doesn't matter what it is or who made it.

After seeing Travis post the explanation of his breakage it makes sense to me that they broke. Take them out of their design criteria and you end up breaking them.

I just hope that the warranty was stood by in all cases. It is a lot of $$ for CVs.

For me - so far they have warranteed them, as I understand it Bobby didn't want to warrantee Robzillas anymore and offered to buy them back

Actually, that seems like an excellent idea to avoid breaking axle shafts altogether, no matter what axle it is...:D

When did Rob go to a D60? He was all about toting how he never broke the alloy shafts/ctms in his D44 front on the old blazer a few years ago.

Blazer is (pretty much) history; new buggy since earlier this year...

So it sounds like competition style rigs broke these RCV pieces? Locked fronts I assume? Do you think they would hold up well with 42" SX's with an D60 open front? Or just keep my stock Spicer front setup with 35 spline outers? I've run 39.5" TSL for 12yrs with no problem on stock spicer setup and open front (mud/snow).

Mine is an 82 K20 wih a lock-right, Robzillas is a full on rock buggy with lockers. If the hub/stub shaft combo works out correctly you would NEVER break one with an open front, but if you have never broken what you have, why spend the almost $2000?

True, why spend $2k. I was just thinking, and some curiousity, if I had to upgrade when I go to 42" SX's. Your probably correct in assuming the stock Spicer stuff should hold up if I keep the front end open.
