Look at cover of Sep Petersons 4x4...anyone made drop brackets like those?

I Just got my Sep issue and saw that suburban with the fabbed up drop brackets on the front springs. Anyone on here ever try somthing like that? I may have found a way to get my lift without buying new springs for the front. I am not realy too concerned with flexing as i mostly do mud and some mild trails but i am wondering if anyone has experience with brackets such as thsese. I am assuming the cannot be bought they must be made correct?
 
I'm sorry but my scanner in broken at the moment so i cant scan a picture to upload. Maybe i can explain it... The are basically front leaf spring mounts that are much longer than the stock ones. They also have a crossmemeber going across between the two mounts as well as a brace going forward to the guys custome bumper. Maybe somone with the mag can post up a pic?
 
yeah do you want to die ???? That is what happens when you do some half ass hillbilly hack shi.TTT to your truck . Those brackets are so dangerous and i would never be cought doing such a thing. wow i would not want to be anywhere near that truck . while you are at that why not use blocks in front safer than that **** . wow dude you are perfect example of when cousins marry . hope you dont die .:shame: shame on your ass now be a man and buy real springs

By the time you spend the cash on the steel, and the welding and everything else, you could have bought a set of 8 inch springs.
 
something like this? I fully agree that this is completely retarded and unsafe, this is my truck and since trying to drive this down the road it is completely impossible to drive safely, i have since returned to stock hangers

theres no reason why, with proper fabrication/design, lower spring hangers aren't possible and safe. Anything can be booty-fabbed, thats not what I'm suggesting. Just saying that it could be done.

Wow somone needs to switch to decalf...Im sorry dude i was just asking a question. that was the purpose of the question...to generate a response and find out if those brackets are safe or not. thanks for the reply but damn i didnt mean to give anyone a heart attack. I've only been building 4x4 trucks for about a year and am still learning the ropes. I started with 5.0 mustangs and i have taken on trucks as an additional hobby. thanks for the replaies everyone...guess im saving up for springs.
 
That does seem to be the question no one is asking. If he has rockies and 53s (about the heaviest tire/axle combo imaginable!)... and his drop spring hangers have never broken on him... whats the problem? The proof is in the pudding, as they say. At the very least, their performance seems to suggest that they are at LEAST as strong as the stock hangers which most of us probably use...

I don't see why some of you guys freaked out. Sounds like most SFA kits for IFS trucks. Like jek said, just because one guy booty-fab'd something doesn't mean its it can never work. I know a few guys running something similar, 2 are DD, 3 are trail only. At least 3 have been in use for more than 5 years.

ill scan a shot and post it. its pritty funny. but still cool, only cause they havent broke. i would have used some stronger girdles in my opinion coming off the drop mounts...
also it does say in the article that he does NOT drive it on the roads....

you know im not likng but im pretty sure there are after market kit for stuper dutys that does the same thing
 
OK, those do look too long for my taste. But no reason a more normal size won't work. I'm more worried about the crappy frame rails they are attached to than the brackets themselves.
