I am looking into bidding on a 85 M1008 CUCV Truck so I can get my Dana 60. Im a Noob when it comes to diesels though.:o Anything I should be aware of with these particular motors? Is it frowned upon if it accidentally turns into a truggy?

check out steelsoldiers.com they have a whole forum dedicated to CUCV's very newbie freindly

there are a few major differences between CUCV's and Civilian trucks

If you buy it I have GOOD information on converting to full 12 volt system.

I concur if the 24volt system works leave it

Actually the only things 24volt are the starter and alternator every thing else runs of of 12volts

correct, id rather have 2 batteries pushing the starter instead of one. Also, 2 alts, good for accessories haha

Im looking on the Government Liquidation site. I would like to get one for under $1000 if possible seeing as they don't specift the exact problem. Wouldn't mind bringing home a deuce in a half but I would have no way of towing it home and if running im unsure if I can just drive it out of there because I would need tags plate and inspection. That would be the ultimate tow rig.

check out steelsoldiers for more information on how to deal with GL, prepare to wait awhile and be sure your able to tow the truck out, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get shafted. Sometimes you can drive it out, some bases wont let you drive it out. I never delt with them, but this is all what i read about. I was researching for awhile before buying my m1008, i would buy from a private party. If your in Penn, talk to 84cucv, hes got a few of these trucks, i got mine from him, very nice guy
