I am looking at another truck because in the past few months I have had realization that mine just has too many problems to fix be for I can start making it what I want. I would like to keep going on it but is just not logical to do. the other reason is I need another laptop. I am hoping that I can uses my truck and some engine parts as leverage to get another laptop and a truck. this is the truck I am thinking about runs and drives and is all ready lifted.

I am not shure if I am aloud to ask this or not but what do you guys think it is worth and I would also like opinions in general about my whole situation.
thanks

What exactly is your question? Should you trade a 78K5 for a 79K5?

No. You are trading one that has problems, for another one that has problems. You are just making a lateral move, not a forward move. If you want something with less issues/more reliable then buy something newer.

Describe what is wrong with your present truck.

Engine need main and rod brgs and oil pump low oil psi only 25lbs. Trans is shot no reverse sometime park paw dose not lock and I think third is slowly going out. Transfer case needs to be looked over and maybe rebuilt. Some floor rot and the tailgate is missing lots of internal parts. Some dumb A$$ previous owner dropt the front and rear ends 3.5in and now it dose not steer for $#!+. drive line slop

I am on a set income so I know I should not even be thinking about owning one of these but I love them and my thoughts where the truck in the ad was allready lifted and clames to run and drive.

I think I would be very happy with it as log as it is not too far gone exterior and interior do not have to be perfect as long as it is reliable.

Seems like neither truck fits what you need.
I think you are right but I am not shore what I need. I would like some thing that runs and drives and is structurally sound and all ready lifted. Has to have auto trans and would rather have manual window and locks don't care about a/c or color of truck. 76-91 models I am not shure if I am aloud
to say but I would like to spend 1K-1500 on one. maybe one of you can tell me what I want or what I need.

If I were you I would sell your 78 and buy the 79 and laptop. That sounds like what you want to do. However I'm addicted to k5s as well. That 79 is worth probably a grand I'd say. Looks like it's missing side view mirrors and some other stuff. The 79 I'm currently driving is all original with 150k original miles on the original drivetrain and it runs and drives pretty good and I payed 950. And if that 79 runs and drives and will get you from A to B then that's all you really need. Maybe you could fix it up as you drive it too. You got any more details or info about that truck?

I promise I'm not picking on you but FYI, shore is like beach. Sure is not sure which truck is better for you.

Only you can decide what is best for you. All we can offer is our opinions.

That being said, I doubt you will be able to sell the rig you have for enough money to buy that one and have anything left over for a laptop.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

I am in the proses of selling the 78 not too many people seam interested in it I have only had 2 people ask about it one is a very good friend of mine and he just dose not have the cash. The other guy is slow to and and did not offer as much cash as my friend did. Here is the catch though I told the other guy the only reasons I was selling was because it need too much work for me and my laptop is falling a part. The guy only wants to pay 800 for it less if he can find a laptop that I like. my friend said he would give 1k if he could hear it run in the shape it is in right now. What the guy dose not get is right now there is another about in the same shape as mine and it has no drive train in it and the asking price is 800 so I feel hi is trying to rip me off. I paid 950 for and sent another 1550 trying to make it right I know it is not worth 2500. On a note I have some parts and would like a ball park value and or guesstimation what I should ask for them.
I AM NOT TRYING TO PIMP MY $#!+ sorry if it is misunderstud
used sbc long tube headers no gasskits no bolts/studs no reducers

I think you are right on that just going to take it one step at a time and see what happens.

You make a very good point there. I do not mind if it needs some work as long as it is a little nicer then mine how ever I do not want something that has been hacked to bits. mine for sure is a hack job not my doing dumb A$$ people before me destroyed it. The first thing that comes to mind when anybody sees it persons smuggling truck. If I see something that I do not like about it when I look at now that I kind of know what to look for as far as hacking goes I will run away fast.

I'm still trying to figure out how you are going to buy this 79 that is supposed to be better than your 78, for a smaller dollar amount than what you are going to sell your 78 for, to no one that apparently is interested in buying from you, and have money left over to buy a computer. :doah:

Regardless if you want a show truck, nice weekend cruiser, DD, or rock crawler, it takes thousands of dollars to get these trucks in good working order for any of the purposes listed above, and it sounds like you are on a really tight budget currently. Honestly, I'd just sell your 78 and buy a computer, and later in life when hopefully more money is available, maybe buy something better to start with that isn't such a hefty project to get into shape.

I would start by putting your truck on Craigslist and seeing how much money you can get for it. By the sounds of things your truck would be worth a grand if you were lucky. If you were able to get that other blazer for $500 plus fixing the couple things that are sure to be wrong with it, then insurance and registration fees, that's at least a grand right there and no money for a lap top.

Rj is right. It's the best answer but the one you don't want to hear. Sell your k5, buy a laptop, and stash the rest of the money in the beginnings of a new k5 savings account.

There's something to be said about the devil you know. When you're buying old trucks, you have a whole new set of issues that you may have to deal with. Like others have said, if getting rid of problems is the goal, you need something newer and more reliable, not to trade one set of problems for another. In all honesty, while you save money on the front end buying cheap trucks, it'll probably cost you more ultimately than buying a more reliable rig in the first place.

THrow everything in the back of the K5 and ask for a grand for the whole thing.
