Hi guys I have a gas 96 1/2 ton sub, and in an effort to screw the oil companies I am doing a bio-diesel startup. I'd like to find a 3/4 ton 2wd diesel and throw in a posi in the back.

Any recommendations on a year and good motor? Is the 6.5 better than the 6.2?

Also I saw one for sale in MI on ebay and the guy has installed marine injectors and done some sort of "resistor change" and swears the thing runs great.

Anyone heard of this mod?

Thanks for any input.

Randy

Resistor change makes the glow plug cycle longer. You need to make sure you have the newer non-swelling type of glow plugs if you are going to do that, or you're begging to get them stuck in the heads after they burn up.

The marine injectors most certainly do add a bunch of power, but only if you have a way of supplying the air that the engine needs to burn it all. A turbocharger is always a good idea, and makes a gigantic difference in how powerful these engines are.

Personally, I'd aim for a 93 6.5L. They are still mechanically injected like the 6.2L engines, but have the extra displacement and the turbocharger.

I'd also look a little farther south or west if your thinking of traveling for a truck... less likely to get a complete rust bucket that way. North Dakota and Kansas are a lot easier on sheetmetal than MN or MI.

If your willing to travel look on the Seattle craigslist site, there are a few of mid 80's rust free 2wd's with the 6.2L popping up on there from time to time.
