So I have wanted to buy a truck for a very very long time. I think I can talk my wife into letting my buy one and I really like the older chevy crew cabs. I really want a diesel but if I go older I can maybe do a cummins swap down the road.

I really like this one but isn't it a K30 and is it a 1991 or older? What do you guys think? Is $6500 too much? It seems high but its exactly what I like and I think this truck with a cummins would be the bee's knees.

I also found this one and called the guy but he seems like a flake because he is a dealer and didn't return my call or email. He also bumped the price up to $6950 for two days and then dropped it back down to where it sits now.

This one doesn't have a pic but he had it posted with a pic before and it looks exactly like the old W/T trucks that were white with black trim. I like it for the diesel but its not exactly what I am looking for as far as looks go.

The purpose of the truck will be to haul kids and wife around, haul crap like scrap, parts, work stuff, and then the seldom tow. I won't be putting alot of miles on it at all so fuel milage isn't a huge concern but it would be nice for the 200 mile trips to the trails. Anyways, what do you guys think? What should I watch out for?

And what years did they make the body style like the first one I listed? It says 91 but I thought they only made them like that in 87 and 88. I dunno?

Oh ya, Price range is around $5,000-$6,000 but for the right deal I can go as high as maybe $10,000?

Thanks guys!

first one all the way, it is a k30 and it might have the 4l80 in it.

the crew cabs like the burbs and k5s ran the old body style till 91. here thats a good price but it also looks like a really nice truck!!

i would jump on the first k30 like stink on ****.

$6500 for the first one is high to me. I can't tell if it's a 2 or 4 wheel drive. It says C30, but hard to tell. Small block and 2wd bring the value down for me, and I wouldn't want to tow with a 350.

2nd one the price seems right, but again a 350 for towing in a truck thats already heavy to begin with. Avery has a similar truck maybe he'll chime in.

3rd one. I don't know much about the 6.5 trucks.

As far as the first one. They made that body style in the K5's, Subs, and 1 ton Crews till 91. If you are after that style be aware they are hard to find. Get one with a 454 if you can. I have one and it tows ok so I can't imagine how a 350 would do.

Have you looked at the 94-98 Rams? You can find the Cummins trucks for a decent price.

First one for sure! It's a K30, 4x4, and a motor swap to anything GM would be easy as pie. If that's what you're looking for, go for it!

The first one says its a 4x4 C30 so I dont' know? I imagine it is a 4x4 with a confused owner.

Did they make a 94-98 crew cab dodge? I hate extended cabs and need to seat 4 people minimum.

Dodge didn't have a crew cab in that body style. And yeah, if you look real close, you can see the front hub is an auto-hub.

And I know kelly blue book value on this truck will be skewed but I can only get it to $5000 and thats with 100K miles and retail value. I don't know the mileage but I imagine it to be more than 100K. If he let me have it for $5000 I would be there asap but what do you guys think of the $6500 price tag? I don't see many of these trucks come by and I really love this body style so if it is close to rust free and in nice condition I may jump on it. I will have to see what the wife says first anyways.

EDIT: What transmission and tranfercase combo will I be looking at with the 91? Maybe 4L80/241? Is that year drivers side or passenger side drop?

maybe 4l80/205! its got a pass drop kingpin 60 in it.

the fact that that truck is pretty rare send the value up pretty high here. k30 crew cabs tend to go from 5k and up even in terrible condition. its all whats going on locally around you.

How far are you willing to travel, in the last 6 months 2 cummins powered crew cabs have come up for sale locally (well semi local) one an 89 dually with a 6" lift and 35s, he wanted 9k but the truck was super super nice, the other was a 78 crewcab single rear wheel pretty decent truck and he wanted 7500 for that.

So if you can and are willing to go 10k I bet you can get an older (cooler) body style truck with a cummins already in it.

I think 6500 is too much for the first one but dang that is a good lookin truck

Alright guys, my wife, of course, doen't like the truck at all.

How hard is it to install a regular long bed in place of the flat bed? Never done it so I don't know if the frame would be modified or anything. If its as easy as pulling a K5 body and reinstalling then it should be a cinch.

And notice to all! If you guys come across a cummins powered crew cab chevy in your neck of the woods then PLEASE let me know. The only thing I don't like about long distance is not being able to shop around. But for the perfect truck it would be worth the hassle.

Duramax if you can swing it. Otherwise I would take the first one you posted with the flatbed. It appears to be 4WD from the pictures but even if it isn't would still be a great truck. Doing the bed swap isn't that big of a deal. Most of the time the beds are either bolted on or welded on. Some I have seen are a combination of bolted in the front and welded in the back. Get the flatbed off and put a fleetsid bed on it. The hardest part will be getting the flatbed off. But then you could sell it to help recoup some of the money spent on buying the truck.

The Duramax if you can get that, you'd be much happier with it than anything older, particularly if you want diesel. The 6.5 and 6.6 don't compare.

Thanks for the input guys! I really love the old K30 crew cabs and I think one with a cummins (or maybe even duramax) swap would be sweet! I want to be able to work on my rig and I know these trucks inside and out (thanks to ck5) but I also think the 04 is nice. I guess I will go look at the 91 and then talk it over with my wife. If I buy the duramax I am going to have to get a loan which kinda sucks. I have 3 auto loans now and I have to buy another van for work soon so that mean I would have 5 auto loans. Thats alot! 3 of the 5 loans would be for work though.

I like the 92 if you do not need an extended cab. Thats a nice truck. Its your choice and your money, so get what YOU want. Do not settle. You don't want to buy one you think you can live with, then get sick of it and sell it in 6 months. A car loan is tough to get right now even if you are A paper.

How big of a hurry are you in? I have a dealers license in MO so I could watch the auctions for ya. Might be going this week.
