i have one i found in the junkyard.its not factory i dont believe.they took the front half and cut it a foot behind the front seat so that you could have the front 2 bolts on either side to hold to the bed.they then grafted in the rear hatch with plate steel and put bondo over it to look good.i think this is the easiest way of doing it.

There WAS a kit you could buy only seen one in three years on eBay.

i want 1 also, i have a pic of 1 that was made by splicing a truck cab on, it is non removable, i'll see if i can find the pics, i missed this deal by @ 2hrs...i was so upset, i had talked to the guy he wanted $650 for it and it ran and drove....i sold a gun to a buddy to buy it, got there he said some1 had bought it about 2hrs earlier. i lost the gun and missed out on the k5, i consoled myself by buying an armalite ar-15 m4 flattop carbine w/od green collapsable stock and forearm

there was a custom shop that was making them a few years back.i cant remember the name but there were a few threads on here about it.i looked and i found this site http://myrodshop.com. email him and see if he still does it.check the site for email.

I've got a .pdf file showing how to convert an old K5 top to use in a half cab. I've been planning on doing this for sometime, but my other projects keep getting in the way (and the fact that my K5 don't fit in the garage doesn't help either). I think I found the link here in the forums. I rember searching for "half cab" "half cab conversion". The link was from the Michigan DNR website I believe.

Yeah, you found the thread... I'm more into finding the kit for '76+ Blazers/Jimmys.

However, that company that makes all the fiberglass body parts does have one as I recall for the 1st Gens...

No worries. I wasn't tryin to single you out or anything, just letting people know you had done some good ol' legwork.:waytogo:

thanks for the picks. I'll be going to the scrap yard to se if I can find a pick up. The info and pictures gave me a good idea of what i need to do. Im going to try to make mine removable with a removable bed divider so i can use my full top to. gonna take some time but when I'm done ill post some picks. thanx again.

I don't know how it'd play out on a 1st Gen, but what I want to do on my '86 is leave the bulkhead / bed divider in place. I've ditched my back seat for good, because I want the extra cargo space. The bulkhead will be nice to keep things from sliding forward and nailing the back of my seat (or my head :D ).

Obviously, if you want to retain the use of your rear seat, this probably wouldn't work for you. I just wanted to toss the idea out there. ;)
