Ive recently begun driving my 86 C10 again.

Nice to have the diesel pur under the hood again. Although I would like to get a little more snap out of it. According to the glove box it has 3.73s but Im not sure if thats true or not. I would eventually like to throw 31/10.5s on it but Im sticking with 235s for now.

Im going to throw a new fuel filter on it, I plan on turning my pump up 10-15%. When I give er the wood I never see any black smoke at all. I was told you want to see a little black smoke when its really wound up but not to much. My K10 had a turbo and it had the pump turned way up and would blow smoke to beat hell:laugh:

Would ditching my mufflers, and getting a K&N help with passing power at all. Im content with my power till about 45-50 then it just seems to fall flat on its face.

Do you guys think a J Code would be worth it?

This truck is going to stay N/A I no longer have the Turbo setup and have no current intentions of adding one to this truck unless I hit the lottery.
 
I'd turn the pump up. My C-10 had the IP rebuilt when Canmore still had the truck. The shop went further than a re&re though. I found the EGR capped and the fuel rate is definitely turned up. If I get into the throttle even halfway I'm already seeing smoke. Full throttle there is a good amount of smoke. I got 3.42's with the 235/75's and it scoots along just fine.

whad they do to the EGR? just bolt a plate in its place? Id be more then willing to ditch the emissions BS
 
The actually pounded in a freeze plug from underneath the actual EGR valve...then mounted the EGR valve in it's stock location, and used 'J' code intake gaskets that have the block out plates. Pretty stealthy way to foil the thing without getting busted on a visual. i only found it when I did the head gaskets and I had the intake off the engine.

Little late to the game but I put Cherry Bombs on in place of the factory mufflers and there was a small but definite seat of the pants increase. Definitely worth the $60 or so it cost me.
 
Had any problems with soot build-up on the Cherry Bombs? That's a concern / problem I've read about with glass packs.:confused:
 
I plan on dual 3" flowmaster's on at least one of my 6.2 trucks. I've heard the glasspacks clog up with soot over time.

Nothing personal Rene but most of the folks over on the 6.2-6.5L forum laughed at that suggestion. They also pointed out that most of the big diesel exhausts feature a cherry bomb/glass pack type muffler.

When I single it I'm planning on using a 3" Magnaflow which is basically just a really well made Cherry Bomb.
 
That's just what I've been told again and again. I never ran em, mostly because I hate the way glass packs sound...

Hell, I can't even hear mine.




Some agreed that they could pack full of stuff but most pointed out that this would require more time than the average exhaust system lifespan unless you live somewhere dry enough that mufflers and exhaust pipe lasts a good, long time.
 
Well, the flowmaster on my Jimmy goes back to 1999, with no signs of rotting out. Aluminized systems here last pretty much forever...

I'd probably run straight pipes before I ran Flowmasters..or some kind of S turn turbo muffler. Not a big fan of the baffles and chambers.
 
After having turbo mufflers on many different vehicles over a 17 year period I'm thoroughly underhwelmed with them. The Flow at the time was pretty new, and the welded construction certainly has proved to be more durable. They sounded great at the time...although now everyone has them.

I'd run straight pipes if and when I add my turbo.

I ran a straight pipe with the Turbo on my K10 and loved the sound. Im considering straight pipeing this NA 6.2 or getting glasspacks and hollowing them out
 
I ran dual glasspacks on mine for several years and only noticed the sound becoming slightly different over time, but the same thing was considered the norm on a gas engine. At the time glasspacks were THE only choice for louder mufflers and I personally knew lots of people with them. The only reason I replaced them was rest of the factory pipes were starting to rot and changed the mufflers at the same time.

Straight exhaust on a N/A 6.2 is LOUD, even louder than straight pipes on most gas engine IMO.
 
Im used to driving piped Semis and such so its only gonna bother everyone else not me.

Straight pipes on a rig with turbo is absolutely no comparison to a naturally aspirated engine. The turbo basically acts like a muffler.
 
my 6.2 is NA and straight piped, its it is RIDICULOUS. At idle it doesn't seem so bad, but try actually driving it without earplugs, and it's like the world is ending! I have exhaust parts in the mail right now, there is no way I could drive this truck around town right now.
 
Video/tape recording never really gives the full effect of exhaust. Lets just say if I have to do anything beyond move it around the yard, I put ear plugs in. If I'm going to be driving over 40, I ALSO put ear muffs on. It's still loud.

My muffler showed up today, thank god!
