looking at the Galaxy DX959 CB Radio listed here: http://www.premiere-electronics.net/store/galaxycbradios.html.

My knowledge on the subject is next to noting but others I've been talking to have suggested the Galaxy. Just curious if it's really worth the price tag. It's gonna be used in the wheeling rig so mostly just talking on the trails and back to base camp type of thing. Also occasionally a T-Hunt now and then.

you would be better off with a radio that is a little easier to work and not have so much to fall apart! a older cobra 29ltd or 25 would work a lot better and take more of a beating than the 959. and yes i do own 959 in my semi that i drive, great radio for highway use but needs constant care in rough terrain. i also own cobra radios, 25ltd,29ltd and 2-148's the 25 and the29 being the toughest of them all. go to a pawn shop buy a 29ltd under $50 take it to a cb shop have it peaked and tuned and see what they have for seggestions on an antena and mounting. if you buy the antena from them and they mount it for you they should tune it for the radio you have and you will be set for around the same price if not less than the galaxy 959 by its self.

:haha:pawn shop and cb shop. it would be great if we had either of those here. For stuff like this I pretty much have to shop online. But thanks for the tip on toughness. I'll look into the cobra's. I was thinking just getting the tall wilson 1000 antenna for whichever I end up with as I've read those are pretty decent as far as antennas.

wilson antennas are very good, but still have to match the coax and antenna for it to work properly with any radio!!!! I HATE SAYING IT BUT YOU CAN FIND DECENT PRICES SOMETIMES ON EVIL BAY OR CRAIGS LIST. GOOD LUCK.

Well if you don't mind an hour drive, there is a T/A truck stop in Ontario CA, they have the Cobra 29 for under $100 new and they have a CB shop on the grounds.
You can be setup right there.
I have a 29BT that is with blue tooth, probably a mistake since no one likes how my call sound through it, so I would suggest you just get the classic, it's cheap and the easiest to tweak.
They say the 25 is better for off road, but I have yet to see, I will try mine when I get the chance to go off road, but mine is in my big rig for now.
As for the Wilson, you can't go wrong with those but I have a cheaper one, all fiber and works great, it cost me $25 to tweak and I get about 10 miles range in open space and down to 5 miles in mountains, in wheeling that is huge
