Looking for cruise control information

I am removing aftermarket parts for my 1976 K5 and I'm wondering about this cruise control? It piggybacks on top of the original Cruise which was just a single button. But it plugs straight into the factory harness so is this a GM dealer installed option to give resume and Coast? Or is it aftermarket? It worked fine but unless there's a good reason to keep it I want to return the Blazer to 100% original and go back to the single button Cruise that's built into the turn signal stalk.

That type of aftermarket switch was very available back then. Audiovox is one of the companies that made them.

I just finished in the last few days installing a 1990’s GM cruise control in my M1009. Actually AC Electro-Motor cruise control and have been in the cruise control world the last few weeks. If what you have works, don’t chop it up removing it. Replacements could be impossible and or very expensive.

The stock GM single button cruise control had a gear box on the drivers fender where the speedometer cable hooked in one side and another cable ran to your speedometer. That was the Vehicle Speed Sensor. Those things tended to break if you looked at them wrong. Or, they would leak out their lube and self destruct. You will probably need to find a working unit to get the stock cruise control working.

Thank you for the reply. All I've done at this point is unplug the piggyback switch. I would like to just use the single button system instead. There is a yellow box of circuitry under the dash as well that was not attached to anything. Just sort of zip tied there. Would that be the control box for the piggyback unit? Or is it needed to run the single button unit? The transducer and Speedo Drive are still connected on the fender under the hood and everything seems to be there.

I have no clue on the yellow box. I do not believe zip ties as we know them existed in 1976.

The stock system used a vacuum can with a long metal rod attached to the carburetor to control the engine. What do you have attaching to your carburetor?
