Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

Looks nice, What kind of headers are those. also are those tube AIR injecton for california????.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The headers are Hooker Super Competition shortys. There are air injection ports on them, although I don't have any of the other equipment so I blocked them off.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

Someday I will post pic's of my exhaust. 85 K5 small block with full length headers (cheap) into a custom 2 1/2 into 3" Y into a 3"cat 3" 2 chamber Flomaster and a factory 3" tailpipe (from Walker for $20). It flows well, sounds great and is up out of the way.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

Am I seeing things or are your headers welded directly to your pipes? If so, you're gonna be one sad puppy when the header gasket takes a poop.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

The Y pipe is welded to the header's and I installed Stage 8 locking header bolts as not to have the usual header gasket's blowing every 3 months.

Even if they do start leaking, unbolting the headers gives about 1/4" of play to manuver the old seal out and put a new one in.

I had them welded because I was replacing collector gaskets every 1000 miles or so with the old headers. I wanted this setup to have the least number of seals possible.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

I have the aluminum colecter gasket and they work great. They are also reusable. I have droped my exhaust a couple times and they still seal good. A little late for you now but it can make working on some stuff easier.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

I bought the headers from a buddy ($125), the 50 series 3 chamber flowmaster from Summitt ($80) and the Dynomax 3" cat from Summitt ($160).

The labor ran $400 even. That included the header install, custome Y pipe creation, and all the bends you see in the tail pipes. The guy even installed the Stage 8 locking header bolts for me too.

So, $365 in parts and $400 in labor = $765 for all new exhaust; headers back to tail pipes. It might seem a little expensive, but I know it's done right and won't have to be done again for a long time! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

Yea, I actually considered going that route. I just wanted it to all be welded together so there's less problems with any leaks. Who knows, I may regret it later, but I don't think so.

The Y pipe is positioned to where I can still get the oil pan out, and it doesn't block anything else.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

LOL! Well, to be fair, the shop charged me around $160 for just the header install. So I could have lowered the labor to $240 if I installed the headers myself and drove it to the shop like that.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

What I wouldn't give to see you pull up next to some 2-door spec. with a wing on the back, stickers all over the windows, japanese letters and loud base music, with the guy smokin a cigarette with your tail pipe meeting him about face-level. A few revs would give him all the smoke he wants and drown out that annoying base.

When you get the video, please post it.

Your truck looks great.

Re: Looking for exhaust idea\'s??

Hahaha! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

That's too funny, only because I recenty did that! I was waiting at a stop light, and this 4 door stratus (or something similar) pulls up with the bass so loud, it was shaking my truck. He had all 4 windows open, and happened to stop with my tail pipe pointing right inside his back window. I did the 'ole gas/break trick to rev it up some and about 15 seconds later, he inched forward to get out of the way. So, I pulled forward too to put the pipe right back into his window! LOL

Oh, and thanks for the compliment
