I have questions in regards to CA vehicle laws. I have looked stuff up but some still seems unknown in regards to a 2wd pickup truck.

Are fenders Or something that covers the tires required?

Are doors required on the cab?

Is windshield glass required or is a sheet of plexiglass ok? Will a full face helemt be legal?

I will obviously have all functioning lights, mirrors and gauges.

can the engine be exposed? Like an old roadster?

Could I have wire mesh over the windshield area or would this be considered an obstruction of view?

Need something that covers the width of the tires, mud flaps are fine. Roadsters run without fenders and don't get hassled. 'Might' be a good idea to have fenders.
Doors are not required, jeeps run without them all the time.
Need a windshield, plexiglass is not OK.
Engine can be exposed, see people running without a hood all the time.
Don't use wire mesh, must have a clear view of the road.
Of course, some of these things i mentioned might not be legal but as long as you don't draw attention to yourself by your driving style you should be fine. Just depends if you stumble upon an a-hole cop.

Becareful giving advice on the "doors not required", Jeeps have a LIP, to keep things from falling out, so not having doors and no lip MIGHT get you some unwanted attention. Unless you have tube doors, etc.

Did you rob this vehicle off the Road Warrior movie set? In all seriousness, you will need fenders that cover the entire tire tread. The mesh windshield isn't going to fly either. A plexiglass one will do the job but will scratch and turn yellow quickly and become a safety hazard, and they aren't legal.

Having no hood isn't illegal but it may cause a cop to pull you over to see what's up with your car. From the sounds of this rig you don't need any undue attention.

Doors are iffy. Yeah, the Jeep guys remove them but CA law (and most other states) requires side mirrors I believe. I think Jeeps have a kit to relocate the mirrors.

I wouldn't drive this truck far if you are planning on operating it on the street.

Actually you are not far off from Road Warrior! That is where it would be going. This thing would be nothing but an attention getter when I am done with it. I am just trying to figure if I can drive it into CA. I may just end up flat towing to the location.

the only thing i can see is if your towing it and its not registerd you may need to get a cali OHV green tag for the run

tires covered or mud flaps(full width of tires covering to below center of axle)
Are doors required on the cab?
yes, unless you have a removable top, and if the doors are off the top has to be too
Is windshield glass required or is a sheet of plexiglass ok? Will a full face helmet be legal?
windshield required, plexiglass okay as long as it is completely clear . Helmet not allowed in vehicle (they claim it obstructs your view)

yes

nothing over windshield allowed or more than 4" above where the stock hood sets (even if it isn't on)
Hope this helps if you are able to go.

Also, if it is registered in your state California legal doesn't really matter.
