Hey all I am in need of some advice on buying a new (to me at least) impact. I am looking for a good 3/8 and 1/2. I work as a diesel tech in a CAT dealership. Mainly just doing engine work. I currently have 3/8: an older IM31, and CP724h that was bought used NIB that I haven't had a chance to use yet. I also have 1/2: a AT123A and IM5100.

I find lots of good deals at pawn shops and used tool stores ebay etc, but generally resell them at a profit. Now I am looking for something to keep for my self and not really sure what I want. So suggestions and feed back are needed.

I am looking at:
3/8
mg31
1/2
cp749 I prefer snap on of the tool truck guys because of my local dealers, but am also like the CP guns. I have seem lots of the Aircat/Nitrocat stuff online and in catalogs but never had any first hand experience. Are they any good, and do they really as powerful as they are reated? Would love some feed back on the Aircats if anybody has any. I have found a couple models that sound tempting just not sure about the brand. I would like to know before I make a purchase.

I have heard alot of good things about IR 2135 TI's and hope to get one in the near future.

77crew, there's a lot of aircats in my route, and they seem to have a lot of ass, until they give up the ghost, then the guys that bought them are playing hell to get them fixed...

your snapon dealer should have an xt7100 on his truck, check it out, 700ftlbs at 90psi and thats conservative, also look at the ir thunderguns, you can get them at northern for like 179 or so...

mg31 is the way to go for 3/8, more power, speed and warranty than the comparable ir composite

Ingersoll Rand Air Impact Wrench — 1/2in. Drive Thunder Gun, 5.4 CFM, 10,000 RPM, 625ft.-Lbs. Torque, Model# 232TGSL

this is what i use and i beat the piss out of it AND service it poorly it is going on 3years of back yard wrenching

3 thunder guns in our team of guys. all still going after 4+ years of service day in and day out. some super lubed and cleaned every few months. others just run the hell out of it and give it a tast of oil now and then.

ya the others are good. i have tryed the 7100hp from snap on. its gone now as i found my self using the thunder gun all the time.

Well got the XT7100 today on ebay, can't wait untill it gets hear to try out. Also got a IR2131 that will need some repairs made. Any idea where to get it serviced, Matco maybe?

an ingersoll rand service center...
X2. We would just send it to one of these centers. Matco's repair facilities are for Matco branded air tools only.

Never mind I just looked on their site and found out there is a certifed repair center here in town. I also didn't realize this 2131 was rated at 600 ftlbs. I got it in a grab bag of impacts, now anxious to get it and find out how much it will cost to repair it. It seems like it might be a good deal afterall.
