I need some driving lights I can run along with my lowbeams. Nothing too crazy where I wont be getting flashed but bright enough to help the low beams thanks!!!
One is that you can get or build a new wiring harness, which in conjunction with relays to switch the lights, can boost light output at your existing lights by maybe a quarter (as in 125% of what you have now.)
Conveniently, when you do this mod, it's easy to have the high and low beams come on together, so you get a bit more oomph in high beam mode as well.
You can also do higher-output replacement bulbs, see above. I'd do the re-wiring/relay first and then move on to the new bulbs, no sense in putting inferior juice to new fancy bulbs.
You can get hot rod bulbs and a heavy duty harness with these if you want, (I've got 85/110 watt with relays) but standard watt bulbs will still illuminate the road much better in these housings because of the amazing pattern, and minimal wasting of light where you don't need it.
Don't take my word for it though, google Hella E-codes. They're not DOT approved, but who cares. The best thing about them is the sharp beam cutoff, so you have excellent visibility, but you're not going around blinding the hell out of everybody else on the road like the douchebags with their home brewed HID conversions do. [as long as you have them aimed properly] I've had them on my Jeep for almost 4 years now and I swear by them.
Another vote for the Hella lights. I've used them time and time again and absolutely love them. Plus, they do not blind oncoming traffic (assuming you aim them properly - level), so if you use higher wattage bulbs you won't be "that" jerk!
Amazon has a large selection of them as well.
Plus, IPF has some fantastic bulbs. Here's an example page:
They used to sell a 180w H3 bulb back in the 80's, and I cannot describe how incredible they were. They would light up a freeway for 5 miles as bright as day. Standing 10 feet in front of my old car you could feel the heat from the bulbs. And if you had them on while the motor was idling, they would drain the battery faster than the alternator could charge it ... in about 5 minutes (I found that out the hard way)!
