I'm looking for a tie rod with ends and a drag link for my 81 K5 and was wondering what donor vehicles I should look for. going to the pick-a-parts this weekend
thanks

i may be off, but, any 80' -91' blazer, 80'-87' 1/2 , or 3/4 ton pickup and 80' and up suburbans with the 10 bolt front end should be the same. if i am wrong i am sure someone will correct me.

GM used three styles of tie rods. 73-76, 76-80, 81-91. \

73-76 has a long drivers side/short pass side, with the adjusting sleeve on the pass side. The hole for the steering stabilizer is towards the middle of the axle.

76-80 has a long drivers side/short pass side, with the adjusting sleeve on the pass side. The hole for the steering stabilizer is towards the drivers side.

81-91 has a shorts drivers side/shorts pass side, with a long adjusting sleeve connecting the two. The hole for the steering stabilizer is in the drivers side tie rod.

The 76-80 and 81-91 will interchange without any problems. The 73-76 will work, but the steering stabilizer won't bolt up to it. Unless you're using an aftermarket one that clamps to the axle/tie rod.

The drag link from any 4wd 73-87/91 1/2ton or 3/4ton will work.

Hey, that's MY zip code! Now that means you must be really close by. I have a couple parts trucks here if you need anything else. I'm much closer than Ecology Auto Salvage:D I wouldn't have the right tie rod, but I probably have an extra drag link here.

Throttleissues is a good guy but watch out for his dogs when you get there. They might only eat your left arm if they aren't too hungry. :eek1: What's up Chris.:D

I have a brand new set of tie-rods for my '91 3/4 ton sub. I just have not gotten around to swapping them in. You can have my old ones for free. Unfortunatly, I just threw away the drag links that I replaced. They are not bad, I am just doing a lot of work on the truck and wanted new clean ones.
For what it's worth, I bought the new ones at PepBoys and they were not too expensive (maybe $50 for both sides).
I am in Costa Mesa.

Chris, thanks for all you help, and for the parts too - I can't wait to get the 14 bolt installed
