I am wanting to buy an 8 inch suspension lift for my 87 K5. looking for advice on who has the most affordable lift and what is the best method to lift this vehicle. I will also be running on tons if that helps.

If your looking for a cheaper Lift Kit, go with Rough Country... The components definitely seem to wear out a little faster though.... I'd personally spend some coin and get a good one!

First ask yourself if you really need 8". A lower truck drives and rides better. You need multiple levels of steering correction or a crossover conversion if you can afford it. Then a SYE if you can swing it and probably 2 high-$$ driveshafts to make it run without vibrations.

The general advice here is to trim more, lift less. What do you want to get out of the vehicle? If you don't care how it rides, just pick a lift kit off a web page. If you want something that works really well, call Off-Road Design. They can pick kit components from different suppliers for you and make sure it will work out nice. Or they can get you custom springs that are much better.

If you want 8" total lift.......how about some 6" springs, 1 inch zero rate (move axle forward also) and a 1 inch body lift, the rear do a set of 4" springs and a shackle flip for the other 4".

That combo will get you 8", but will ride and work much better then 8" springs.

I am not against cutting the fenders it's not like I'm building a show truck however I and not really sure how much Fender I would have to cut if I stay with a 4-5 inch lift to be able and run 38 to 40 inch tires. Trust me I would much rather not have to fool with driveshafts brake lines and all the necessary upgrades with a higher lift.

best money spent is no money till reserch is done.

first money to spend is 25 bucks for full membership here. and read/look at TONS OF PICS and threads on fender cutting .

best 25 bucks you will spend hands down :thumb:

i know a guy use to run 4" lift 3" body and 38x12.50 no problems . if you cut a bit and do 1" zero rate and move front axle ahead then less problems of hitting.
