PM Matt, MONSTRBURBN, He has a set on his 468ci burbon and seems real happy and they look great too. Seem to remember that he paid about what your price shows.

Where in SoCal are you. Matt lives in O.C. / Buena Park and I think he got them local to him.

I'm actually up in Nor Cal, Sacramento area. Thanks for the heads up too, I was told headers can be awesome or a pain in the arse if you don't buy the right size, right fit etc. Also the mantra "You get what you pay for" seems to be the idea too.

PerTronix is out of San Dimas which I believe is down south if I remember correctly so he may have been able to drive out and pick them up directly. Jeg's seems to be the cheapest, definitely cheaper than the local stores but I plan of having them installed professionally so I'll stimulate the local economy :D

I have a set of Doug Thorley's on my 85 K30 Dually with a 454, and they are good quality headers with a thick mounting flange. They are close to the starter motor though, and create a lot of heat on the starter motor, so I would recomend a starter motor heat sheild.

Keep in mind that Doug Thorley headers and Doug's Headers are now two different companies. As I found out some time back, Doug Thorley got divorced from his wife and she got the company. I think after a year he was able to go back into the business and started Doug's Headers. They are his original Tri-Y design and he was bought by Pertronix as stated although he still runs the company as a subsidiary. I have a set of his ceramic coated ones on my rig and I love them. The quality is good and they fit well. I ordered them from the website which referred me to some other company that I don't have the ID on right now. I also did a heat shield from ThermoTec on my MSD mini-starter for extra protection.

Awesome thanks for the info! Yeah, I was told about Doug Thorley's and Doug's Headers, but to go with Doug's Headers the original. Now on a 400cid do I need to worry about the extra heat? If so, what wraps should I look at from ThermoTec?

I have a 400sbc also but not sure of the header type. The starter is real close to the header too and I used one of the thermotech wraps that I believe is made for starters. It is about 7" wide and 24" long with velcro used to make the closure as well as stainless steel bands to hold it on securely. Haven't had a starter issue since using it. I only have about a 3/8 gap between the starter and header.

Yep, that is the starter cover I used as well. I wouldn't use any wrap on the headers themselves, especially if ceramic, but you can wrap the pipes after the collectors if needed. I was having some issues with the exhaust pipes heating up the gas lines so I used the ThermoTec wrap in the places where the pipes were close to the frame rail. I used the ThermoTec starter shield and also cut some pieces of aluminum, put some stick on ThermoTec heat material on them, and fastened them between my fuel lines and the exhaust pipes.

Hey, I'll take a pic of my 400 with Thorley headers and the stock starter w/ heat shield. Might help w/ clearance estimation.
Any other pics needed?

OK. Pic whoring but might help with clearance decisions...

Ceramic coated by aftermarket company. They've lasted many seasons.

OH, and when I installed many years ago, I didn't think headers would make any noticeable difference. I was impressed at the low end torque these headers added.
