Been having lots of back issues lately. I knew I had a torn disc. New MRI show bigger tear plus a herniated disc, nerve impingement and other degenerating discs :doah:
Pain is horrible at this point. I moved some tires out of the shed Friday to get to the riding mower. I've been almost bed-ridden since Friday. Pain killers and ice non-stop. So many plans are over for now.

I've bumped the truggy for sale I bought from Ktmoutfront a few times but it's still for sale. I will have a bender for sale and other stuff. I will attempt to go through the garage and shed tomorrow and make a list of everything for sale.

Looks like I will save a lot of money by not having to build a shop :(

Stay tuned...

That sucks man, is surgery an option that might help? Back pain is terrible!

back pain sucks, I feel for ya Bryan...

I'm being referred to an orthopedic surgeon but that appointment isn't until July. Will have to see what they say. There will be no fusing of the discs!

Dave, yeah, pain was real bad. I was putting things back in the shed and had to kneel down for something and couldn't stand up. I had to crawl to my car trailer to push myself up. I am so screwed

i dealt with a herniated disc for 2 years. it was so bad i could barely stand or walk for more than 5 minutes. at 23 years old, that seriously sucks. i finally gave in and got surgery last year. minimally invasive, tiny incision (0.5" inch slit), operation took like 30 minutes. best decision ever. pain was reduced 90% instantaneously, and almost completely gone now (a year later). don't know why i put it off for so long. dont know anything about torn discs, but for a herniated disc, get the surgery. technology is great these days.

Wow! That sucks. Sorry to hear it. Maybe the docs can do something. Don't make any decisions to hastily.

Ouch man. Good luck getting it taken care of.

That really sucks. I hope it's not rally that bad. But do what you have too. Quality of life is more important than having stuff.

Having suffered with back pain most of my adult life, you have my sympathy...it takes the wind out of your sails, when you get put in agony doing practically nothing...

I'm about ready to give up owning anything too,not only due to the fact I cant work enough to afford to own more than one vehicle and my "home" will likely be going away when my mom passes--I'm simply unable to maintain and fix a "fleet" any more, and looking back,I dont know how I have managed to, this long!...now just the thoughts of having to move and sell, scrap or dispose of all my posessions is so daunting, dont know how the hell I'm going to be able to do it,and most likely no one else in the family will help me either...

I regret buying the '85 Suburban 4x4 now,got it in 2009 and its never been out of the yard, registered, the problems it had fixed, all I managed to get done on it was install a plow setup, which has never been used once!...what sucks most is no one here will want to buy it for what I had into it either, and I'd hate to see it just get scrapped...but its my fault for buying it in the first place I guess...

My pickup is still registered and driven, but its getting very rough as far as rust and isnt worth a restoration really now..if I felt up to it I'd part it out and use the axles and tranny & transfer in the Suburban, but the more I look at all my vehicles--the less ambition I have to fix them, knowing how much I'll be hurting after trying to do it...and if I end up giving up halfway thru the job, then they will really be worth nothing...better off selling them as-is probably..sucks when your health is poor, you spend more time recovering than doing what you want too...

I'm going through the same stuff myself, arthritic bone spurs growing into the disks and nerves up and down my back. I just did some therapy on my lower back that helped a lot. Look for a PT office w/ someone who specializes in the McKenzie protocol.

I see a chiro every month or 2. It's went way past chiro help.

Did the physical therapy thing for a while before the MRI. Nothing more stretching, exercises, or electric stim can do either. The pinched nerve needs to be relieved before it becomes permanent nerve damage.

well, that's a bunch of suck.... hope you find something that relieves it some...

Let me know if you need help. I am in town until the middle of July now. I'm just prepping the semi for paint. So not doing a lot.

That's a bummer! My dad has had two major back surgeries over the years and the last one they put two rods and a spinal cage screwing everything in place so it can't move around in his lower back. That part of the surgery went really well but there was nerve damage in the process.
Surgery is a risky business but when it goes well the quality of life improvement can be amazing.

It's not my stuff but I wouldn't fire sale anything just yet. I'm sure you're feeling like you just want to die at the moment but who knows, maybe a year or two from now you'll be good enough to want to turn some wrenches and fabricate again.

Just like many members here, I can feel your pain. My L5/S1, L4 and L3 are herniated and my L1 and L2 are bulging and the only thing that works for me is steroidal injections. I have been to the chiropractor, I have done physical therapy, I have gone to multiple orthopedic Dr.s just to hear them say "you need more physical therapy" just to find out the Dr. owns the physical therapy place.

My suggestion is look up a pain specialist Dr. and get some injections. You can only get three a year but usually by the second injection, I start feeling magnitudes better.

In my case, the injections last as long as I feel stupid enough to move heavy objects around. If your careful and you don’t do stupid thing the injections can last a long time.

That’s just my 2 cents but I hope this helps. I know the pain and I hope you feel relief soon.

Man, we feel for you. Nobody should have to go through that crap. My dad has been through a back surgery for a procedure called the "X stop".. Have you heard of that? Its almost like a tiny jack they install in the spine to relieve pressure of pinched nerves from degenerating discs..

He got some relief from that, but %90 of his relief now comes from a high dollar orthopedic back brace the doctor prescribed. He wears it all day and though it is bulky and not the most comfortable thing in the world, it gives him SOO much relief.

I just mention it because he was very against fusion as well.

Good luck man.
