Loose Race

I replaced all the bearings and races front and back recently. Anyhow, I had the right front off the other day and I noticed that the inner race is a little loose (didn't notice when I put it in). Anyhow, it's not falling out or anything but I can move it around a little. What does everyone think of popping it out of there, coating it with a little JB Weld and tapping it back in. That's the only thing I can think of doing with the exception of finding another hub. Thanks.

Same thing going on with my friends 10 bolt hubs. We pulled the races, coated them with red locktite and reinstalled. Nice and tight now. I would not use JB weld, wont be able to ever replace them again.

Loctite makes a compound called "Bearing Mount" just for this purpose. It holds REALLY tight, and uusually requires heat to remove it. That stuff works great, though.:D

its green and used for retaining purposes, and super strong. you probably wont find it at autoone though, you can usually find it at graingers or industrial parts suppliers.
 
x3... the green loctite is the chit in certain apps.. far different viscosity from the red.. we use it a bunch at work...
 
you can get a punch and a hammer and put 4 indentions on the hubs race surface and not the race itself evenly spaced out, then add green locktite and it will be more of a press fit. Did this to a d60 front pinion bearing that the race wouldn't stay pressed in from spinning a bearing.
 
Thanks to all for the advice. I found some of the green Permatex Sleeve Retainer that should do the trick. Re the punch method, the guys at the parts store recommended punching the outer race surface but I'm thinking oneton's method is better as the race is probably too hard.

I ended up using a different Permatex product, a bearing mount type. Anyhow, it set in one to two hours and seems good. I couldn't get a good hit on a punch on the hub surface so I didn't do that step but it seems secure. Thanks.
