Losing fluid transfer case

Yes, that is the breather hose. It's usually routed up high, approximately to the top of the bellhousing.

Check the fluid levels in the trans and tcase. It’s unusual to get fluid out of the vent unless it’s overfilled or getting really hot and foaming up the fluid.

Check your trans fluid level. The trans can leak into the t-case if you have a bad seal.

yeeeaah transfer case is prob never going to be that full unless it was underwater and has filled somehow, or the trans has a failed seal and is pushing pressurized oil into the transfer case. the tail shaft housing is not supposed to have pressure in it, and the seal on the front of the transfer case is there to hold oil in, not keep pressurized oil out?? that was my understanding.

trans will burn up if running dry so better keep an eye on it... there was a cheap kit somewhere a while back with a few fittings and a hose? it allowed the oil overflowing in the transfer case to flow back into the transmission pan??

My TH400 did that to a 208 case, and the th400 had to come apart and got some kind of rebuild.

a 700r4 did that to my buddy's 208 in a 86 (i think) K5, and the transfer case came down twice for new input seals, and it continued to puke oil so he sold the truck.

Drivers drop 241's (no idea about 208s) have a design flaw with the breather that was rectified on later cases.

What causes the vent line to puke for some of us, and not others, I have no clue. But I do know GM redesigned the case to solve it, so it's not something we are doing wrong usually.

Obviously, letting the case fill up with trans fluid is going to cause issues too lol.

OP here, glad this got bumped. I ran the hose up to the bell housing, everything dry so far, maybe 20 miles use. Both the trans and T case were low, trans about a quart, T base almost one. Going to drive it more before putting the cover back on. Thank again.

Make sure that the vent line has a smooth slope upwards. Mine had a belly in it once, after a weekend in Moab, it blew oil out when I got on the interstate at 80 mph.
