Due to slicks_in_rains truck getting stolen I got to thinking, what are the best ways to prevent this? Alarm? Hidden fuel pump switch? Pit Bull? Driver only carries $20 in ammuniton stickers? How about wheels and tires? I am going to have about $1500 worth bolted to my axles. I was thinking about getting the lug nuts that require a special wrench to get them off but I know the guy who actually stole the tires and wheels off of my old truck. He used vice grips and channel locks to get them off. Any suggestions?

I plan on installing some type of hidden switch somewhere, probably to cut spark just cause that's harder to fix w/o finding the switch, someone could prob somehow hook fuel up to my truck easier... I presume if they can't get such a large truck started there not stealing it....

That be pretty sick to have a huge fenced off area with your truck sitting in the middle of it under some spot lights and then a pack of pit bulls or rots in there with it :) pretty cool in my mind but very irrational lol. You could always have a fuel cutoff switch and a spark cutoff... have to find or fix 2 different things, and thats gonna take a while. I bet if you had a gun rack easily viewable in your rear window and an empty box of ammo in there they might be a little more sketch about stealing it haha.

I keep a light on at night

buggy..

keep one tire flat and remove the steering wheel, a flat 42 inch tire with no steering is damn near impossible to move let alone even get on a trailer:D

the 07 sas truck, I have a lot of time and effort in this truck and I really don't want it stolen! I keep it parked under light and I have a dog sounds mean as hell when it hears a noise, be it a cat or a person. I know right away if someone is outside and i know when my mail arrives:pimp: I also have it rigged to only starts in neutral and I have a club on it. Right now while I am waiting on a part so it has no brake fluid.. extra bonus I guess:haha:

as for the 08 Colorado..I really don't care, I unload any thing of value like my GPS/camera or work files and parts. If it gets stolen I have really good insurance. I am also having the insurance adjusted for the work done on the 07 and when the buggy is finished and street legal it will be fully insured for full replacement cost. I really don't mind paying a few extra bucks for some piece of mind.

couple other out there ideas that would be fun, hide the alarm and use a police style siren.. fuel cut off located on the truck, just flip it as you walk by or put it inside the door jam. A chain from the seat frame to the steering wheel with a lock, a buddy uses this on his jeep. Paint it like a grabber green and make it huge and obnoctios..know one would steal it unless they wanted attention. A fun one would be the exaust cut outs that are cable or electronic, leave them open when you park it... cut of the switch to the dizzy idea. Easy ones are leave the t-case in neutral. Or leave the truck in low gear with hubs locked. If you have a doubler and lockers your set:)

Some states also have a free program you can enroll in to have you car pulled over between 1am to 5am if the run the plate and its out and about. My exes dad had his truck recovered before they had even found out it had been stolen! I have my Colorado on it, I don't drink and drive so I Have nothing to worry about if they pull me over.

I'd go with lojack... if they want it, it will be gone in under a minute before anyone notices. At least with lojack you can be on the phone and cops on their tail in minutes.

if that was the way it really worked i would be all over it:rolleyes:

I have little faith in our local police force, I called them, with plates while following a car that had just Shot off a gun in a neighborhood, gave them the licence plate, direction traveled. I was on the phone giving turn by turn directions for 3-5 minutes..in the second largest city in az...nothing came of it..freaking aggravating.

Just tell them they are doing a drive by at the local donut shop and they will come running ;)

The removable steering wheel seems like a pretty good idea. I suppose like anything else there are ways around it. Basically from my experience it seems the best way to prevent theft are to make it as big of a pain in the ass as possible for any casual theives. I know a lot of guys in the Seattle area have huge problems with Honda theft and they have resorted to hidden kill switches like having to hold the cigarette lighter in while turning the key or a series of switches in various "on" and "off" positions like a combination lock. Couple a few hidden switches with a removable steering wheel and some other "traps" and maybe you've got a fighting chance.

I know a guy that got his stereo stolen in his neighborhood so many times that he disassembled a stun gun and rigged it in the dash so when he armed his alarm it would energize a wire around the stereo cage. He got his car broken into one time after that and they never came back...

I have a master cutoff under the hood, and am going to install a boat emergency shut off style switch in the dizzie power wire. I also park it close to my house and leave our floodlights on at night, everynight. I park the wifes car behind it, so if they want the jimmy they will move or run over the scion.

locking lugs can work just dont buy any kind from the regular part store in town:rolleyes:.

If your not too concerned about looks and really concerned about theft and you have steel wheels, a little well placed weld is mighty strong...just need to dremel for a bit to get your wheel off. As far as tire on theft, just another reason to get double beadlocks!

PS how bout them rock chalk jayhawks?

WOW, i guess i am glad i live in a small town. I don't even know the last time i took the keys out of my suburban. We do not lock our house either.

It sucks in someways, cause i go into town and forget that jerks actually do steal things. Luckily nothing has happened and i try to remember to roll the windows up and lock the doors.

Mine was stolen a couple of years ago, luckily I got it back. This is what I have done to prevent it from happening again. Kill switch was added as well in a nicely hidden place. Steering wheel gets locked up in Tuffyproducts center console. I figure the casual thief/lowlife will be deterred when he doesn't see a steering wheel.

I would use three or four different style locking lugnuts on each wheel. Make em work for it if they want them.

Go to any wrecking yard, and look at all the GM's with the same columns as ours. Thieves break the steering column. Slow them down there, and the vehicle won't get stolen.

When I swapped the 1 tons under my rig I had to buy all new lugnuts.

I got 32 locking lugnuts (Gorilla brand) from Big O for ~$1 a piece.

If you have a sm465 you can pull the shifter. Thats what I do to my truck, when I leave it on the trailer overnight Good luck stealing a truck that wont go in gear.

No advise for the wheels or tires though

for the wheels and tires other than locking nuts and even those are not that great..your screwed.

a lot of thieves are amateurs or thieves of opportunity, just don't make it really easy. In my opinion a lifted big ugly blazer is not on most people list of things to steal.

but if they really want it that bad they will get it, put it in a garage or storage yard. here they have ones with 24 hour access and on site security. Anyone going in or out after 6pm has to be let in and out by security. Its 60 bucks a month for a car/suv/truck, I have a friend that keep his rig and trailer there, when he wants to work on it or go wheeling he picks it up, when he is done he parks it, puts a lock on the trailer and a car cover on his rig. Its a sweet set up and convenient for something you don't drive much.

honestly if you live in an area where you cant have a nice car or you are always getting robbed..you need to move. I can leave with out locking my house up and feel just fine about it. I have a dog that sounds crazy and big, and neighbors that I am real nice to and keep an eye on stuff. They even called me the day my dad came over to pick up something and asked if a white dodge belonged to someone I know since he was in my back yard:waytogo:

I am not stupid, I just dont feel the need to live in fear, I can run in the bank and not lock the door..the thief does not kno the door was unlocked and if he really wanted it he would get it anyways. Plent of people here in scottsdale/gilbert/tempe or nice areas leave the top down on their convertables all the time.

I usually leave the top down or doors unlocked on my convertable. I figgur if anyone wants my cheap stereo they can have it. I would rather make it easy to get in the car than have someone cut my top with a knife to get in.
A theif cant go anywher in it.
It wont start cuz I have the fuse for the fuel pump in my pocket.
There is a phony ign kill switch not very well hidden under the dash. If a theif flipps the switch. It sends power to The lights and horn relays. Cheap, easy to wire, but effititive Theif operated theft deterent system.

How sturdy is the Tuffy console? I'm thinking I need something better than the stock console.. I usually have a pistol in there, and I'm not feeling good about parking downtown 4 times a week now with it.
