Lost reverse last night in the suburban, it's a th400/np208 trans setup. I have a 5.3L swapped in and could easily wire in the harness for the 4L80E if I could find one for the right price. Would I bolt my np208 on there or what's the odds of finding a NP241 transfer case for one? Otherwise I think I'll just rebuild the th400 and go with the upgraded drum, a nice trans go towing shift kit for slightly firmer shifts and install a huge trans cooler up front and either trans would get a deep aluminum pan with a bung welded on for a trans temp gauge. Really just wanting advice on what all is involved in the swap and what ck5 would do. :waytogo:

well just dropped off the truck at the local racing trans shop to have the 4L80E drum installed along with better clutches/bands and a deep trans pan, trans go towing shift kit and a huge trans cooler installed. Couldn't find enough info out there and no one responded on here about my problem, so just rebuilding what I have. Also installing a trans temp gauge as well, figured I can keep tabs on what is going on in the trans better then.

If it is going to see alot of highway running I would have looked into the overdrive trans a little more. Outside of that there is nothing wrong with just rebuilding what you have. If you have the coin, consider doing a low gear set for first and second gear. It will help if you do alot of stop and go driving plus it's nicer offroad.

well i use the truck to pull my trailer for my business, so I only had 2 days to figure out a solution or else I can't work. So upgraded everything I could in the trans and it should last me another 200k miles hopefully lol. Yes I would have preferred the lower RPM on the highway but all my work is 45mph zones and under typically. So the 2500 at 60mph will just have to stay.

Where do you find these gear sets?

they're $1000+ last time i looked into aftermarket gear sets for my race car. No way I'd do that for my DD tow vehicle.
