Hello all I recently bought a 1985 Blazer... It had a colorado k-5 sticker on windshield so here I am thats how I found this site...Ok now my blazer had a diesel that I broke the crank in now i put in a 350 will the tourque converter off diesel work or do I need to change it?

Thanks for coming . It may fit , but the stall speed may be incorrect . Hopesfully someone else chimes in .

I do offer a welcome home , you'll love it here :waytogo:

Not alot info here,(diesel idles lower so the stall speed shold be lower. that just means that the power band will be lower.) But my girlfriend is from Abilene---Small world.

My experience with the diesel transmissions is that they shift too early, even for the diesels. That's handled through the governor.

The converter is probably a pretty low stall speed as well, some trans shops can actually tell you the rated stall speed of "exact replacement" converters based on application.

I posted up in the diesel forum for you. Welcome to the brother hood when you can afford to become a member you will unlock all the goodies. Not rubbing ya just saying it is worth it.

Yea we have our share of grass poles here too. But most are great guys and will help you any way they can. Then you have those who have to make others feel bad so they can feel good about their little crappy lives!

Thing they forget is that we all have one thing in common and that is our love for our trucks. *some it goes beyond that :haha:

Need to change the diesel converter out for a gas one. If your going to try and use the diesel tranny, I know you'll have to make some changes to it too. If you get your membership you can use the search function, there's a ton of info on this and just about any other subject you can imagine.

Yes, unfortunately. It's starting to remind me of Pirate4x4 around here sometimes.

The diesel convertor will work but it will shift too early for the gas engine, if the engine isn't strong enough it will lug until it picks up the RPM's
The diesel torque convertor shifts at lower RPM than a gas engine:
Diesel 1000-1200
Gas 1300-1500
Numbers are estimates from my testing.
I have yet to see an official number for diesel.

Are'nt the diesel converters 6 bolt instead of 3? All the 6.2's and 6.5's I have done are.

Yes the diesel has six and gas has three but you can line up three of the six and it will bolt up. Thanx for the answers I guess i need to go buy a new torque converter and pull this thing back apart to install. I just left FT Hood texas and moved to Ft Riley Kansas anyone know of any good 4x4 spots around here?

Last time I was there, there were a couple of places between Ogden and Manhatten. Don't know what they are called, but some of the guys around there will know.

There are some real good places past vinten school road on post but I think they frown upon you going out there any more.
