Ok I have this sort of rattling, ticking noise when I start my truck:mad: . Its real noticeable when cold  but once the truck reaches operating temps, the noise goes away, I'm thinking it could possibly be the heat riser (EFE valve), but I don't know.:dunno:

Can these heat risers or EFE valves cause a lot of noise when cold?:ears:

Its on an 86 K5 w/ a 350 and headers.:D

Also just had true duals put on :D and was wondering if possibly an exhaust leak something loose on the exhasut, but if that was the case wouldn't it do it all the time

if you got headers shouldnt you have lost that valve? could it be at a rough idle your tubes are hitting the frame?

No I still have the valve? (Edelbrock TES headers).

I thought maybe they were hitting too, but couldn't find any spots where it was but will be checking again

I have TES headers. They dont have the heat riser butterfly valve in the exhaust. Are you talking about the Thermac system that draws hot air off the headers and feeds it to the air cleaner? That should not make any noise.
Try retorquing all your exhaust flange bolts and y pipe connection bolts.
I had to retorque all mine after about 5K miles. They were leaking a bit. I recheck them once a year. I have been running the Tes headers for about 7 years now and have never replaced a gasket.

The valve is not embedded in the headers. It is the same stock valve thats been on there forever.

Yes it is the one that feeds hot air to the air cleaner to help heat the carb up faster

If thats not making the noise, then I am not sure what it is
