Anyone else dealt with this? Have an ~'81-ish frame, but have been using the later spec hose. It fits, but it hits the crossmember. There is almost no length left on either end to cut that would seem to get it away from rubbing.

Rockauto shows the same hose for 1985-1987 K5's, C/K30's etc, with the 5.7L engine for example. I didn't look at every option, I just figured K5 to one ton kind of covers the extreme ends where I would think you might see a difference.

Rockauto shows a different hose for the earlier trucks. I just picked 1981, and the variety of trucks I looked at all used the same lower hose that vintage too. The end diameters are the same earlier or later, it just seems to be the bends.

I'm not aware of anything that changed really for those years, perhaps a later accessory was in the way?

The later hose I don't like the fit of is Gates 21620, the earlier is Gates 20843. Interesting, the rockauto pic shows the earlier hose coming with a protective sleeve in about the area I'd expect it to rub.

I'm not a purist, I'd rather have something without all the crazy bends that doesn't rub. I have nothing in the way, perhaps even one of the "universal" hoses would fit, although I'm not sure how those hold up compared to molded hoses. I would think that might compromise strength/longevity?

Not a fan of the universal hoses, band aid to get you home in my mind. I don't think mine rubs on the cross member. It gets dam close the frame if not touching. I used the correct year and model for my 77
