i had a quick question about the lower radiator hose i dont know if i should get the one with a spring inside or not? Is there a big difference is it reccomended? what do u guys suggest?

I just replaced mine, And there was no wire inside. I think that the wire rusts over time. I dont think you need it, But, Im far from an expert. Very far!

The spring is a must on many applications!..the lower hose is on the suction side of the system, and vacuum can cause it to collapse at high speeds and kill the circulation of coolant...some hoses had the wire casted into the hose, others came without one and your supposed to transfer the original to the new hose....many hard to figure out cooling system problems were traced back to no spring in the lower hose on older cars & trucks...I'd use one if there is any doubt whether one should be there--adding one wont hurt at any rate...

just get a quality lower hose, like a gates. I bought one from pepboys that was junk. It is however my trail backup. I personally haven't had any problems with gates hoses, 7.4, 4.3, 6.6, 5.7 are all still running good. I have heard of lower hoses collapsing when really hot and under high suction. My pepboys hose would prolly do that.

Ya haven't had a problem with the last one I replaced with no wire. But when it comes to stuff like hoses and gaskets I always buy the expensive one.

cool thanks for all the replies going to swap out the water pump and lower hose out this weekend hopefully it goes smooth.

I recently got a delco lower hose for a 78. gm part number 88908342

It has no internal spring. On the outside is a pvc type of plastic piece that I guess is for preventing it from wearing down.
