I am about to do an ls engine swap in my 85 dd. Fixing to pick up the engine and harness and most of the parts I need.

First question, the tranny is controlled by the same engine and harness correct? The harness is suppose to be complete and unmodified so I can wire it how I want and I want to take advantage of the computer controlled overdrive tranny.

Second question, I am planning on the engine swap fairly soon as it is necessary but it will be a few months before I can get the tranny built and installed so I need to know how that is going to affect my computer when I leave the controls in but unhooked.

I know it would be easier to swap it all at once but like I said motor needs to be done soon and since I dont trust used trannys I want to build one before I put it in and it will take some time to have that done. Thanks.

Didnt want to start a new thread for something related to my swap, and I dont know if I should even dare to ask but does anybody have any opinions on ebay transmission builders?

Ive been planning on a bto transmission but they are so expensive. Is it possible for these guys on ebay to build them for half the price and they be any good?

here are two that Ive looked at:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4L60E-RE-MA...Parts_Accessories&hash=item35c55cd867&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-GMC-C...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd065c330

Im pretty cheap so these are appealing and come with a 3yr/however many mile warranty so it all sounds good but I also dont want to buy something Im going to have to ship back.

Those two ebay transmissions do not fit the LS engine, they are for the earlier engines and use a 298MM converter as opposed to the LS engines 300 MM converter. When it comes to shopping for a quality remanufactured or perfromance component as complicated as a Transmission or engine, you will do better to shop by reputation and integrity of the company rather than price. I don't think it is possible to buy a 4L60E loaded with all new parts and electronics , torque converter, no core charge etc for that kind of price and remain in business long enough to cover the warranty. :dunno:

Doesnt seem much cheaper than having a reputable builder doing the work when you read the fine print and think about shipping.

799.00
Exchanged
Exchanged Core must be rebuldable
Torque Converter must be purchased for warranty validation $125.

I recall the one time I wasted money on a 700r4 it was in the 1100 dollar range for a rebuild.

This is the kind of response I expected. I emailed one of the companies about total price, with no core, new convertor, and shipping it was $1300. Bto is not far off from that and I would feel much more comfortable.
