ok, I was curious whether there where any LS intakes that had the throttle body up on top as opposed to the common up front ones...

I knew there where companies making ones like that for carbs up on top... but I'm looking for one set up for MPFI, that you just have the throttle body up top...

started looking around and saw this holley offering that is supposedlely a carb one.. am I nut's or aren't those injector/rail holes on this?

basically I'm trying to see how nut's it'd be to change out my TBI mill in the K5 to an LS platform and maintain my salad bowl/cowl induction set up... no carb, has to be MPFI..

I don't mind reworking the salad bowl a bit, but obviously the front facing throttle bodies would nix it... could have swore I saw a custom intake maker link at one point that made stuff like this... I think Dave posted it, a motor builder dude who did custom intakes...

answered my own question.. helps if you look at the pdf... :doah: :haha:

"this product is intended for carbureted, throttle body EFI or port EFI applications.."

The real key here is that that manifold comes on at 3500rpms... I wanted to do exactly what you're talking about for the street truck since its got a cowl hood on it but I couldnt find an LS low RPM manifold for a 4 barrel TB.

Ive basically decided Im going to run an edelbrock tall manifold and mount an airbox similar to the WS6 or c5 vette airbox over the manifold so its sealed or at least in the cowl.

2500 to 7 g's... being a single plane, that's not surprising..

I'm wondering if the front TB is that far fetched to use with a big 180 glass tube back to the airbox... obviously that would be WAY more surgery than just modding the bottom of the salad bowl for a different height or something... but I'm sure it could be doable..

it's just something I contemplated today as a possibility......

neat....

than there's always the fancy bling option...

at $500 sheckles.... :eek1: :haha:

we'll see, maybe a 5.3 or 6 will fall in my lap... that build needs eleventy thousand sheckles as is already with just the TBi mill, soooooo...........

Hogan, Wilson and MAST come to mind....

Hogan and Wilson can make anything you want!

here's another single plane from mastmotorsports

maybe this is the rpm answer... convert a dual plane carb one to mpfi

he!!, it's got the boss's in the runner to do the injectors already.....

that would be the way to go I think, sheetmetal intakes are crazy expensive!

fock yeah.... something cast and modded is fine... $1000+ for a fabbed intake, ummmmm, my piggy bank go he!! no...

be easy enough, do an adapted stock TB on it.. drill and tap for injectors, easy peezy.... now I just need to come across a bargain LS... :doah:

There is a company that makes a square bore to standard throttle body adapter. I just saw it when googling around for an intake manifold.

I was under the impression that ALL ls manifolds were single plane? This one just happens to be an older school orientation of the runners no?

I'm really not worried about getting a TB on.. as sweetk30 showed, there are ways around that... rpm range, and getting dry injectors in are another story..

those last 2 setups I just posted look dual plane to me, same runner styling as a performer, etc...

I don't know, is the stock style considered a single plane? I would guess so, just long runners... looks kinda like a tpi intake...

what's the rpm characteristics of a stock ls intake?

The truck intakes are a "bottle neck" aimed at improving torque. Ive never really heard anything about guys "loosing bottom end" from any factory intake manifold. Or even after market for that matter. It seems as though with these motors its just stuff more air in so you know it has enough...

Kind of a theoretically bad way to look at it but every dyno shake down Ive ever read on LS builds from mild to wild it always goes truck -> LS1 -> LS6 ->after market. The curve has gotta move though. There has to be some point that the low RPM velocity is sacrificed for high rpm flow. I would be willing to bet the victor would have a better/lower rpm kick in with injection rather than carb. Theres really no reason for a dual plane with fuel injection...

right.. so I'm curious why that holley is listed at 2500... maybe cuz the runners are so short compared to stock would be my guess...

lol, I opened a can of worms for myself here.... :doah: I'm kind of an LS newb.. I've done a few long block repowers in a couple LS boats, but I don't have many...

and more importantly, I haven't bothered learning all the "hotrodding" tricks to em like previous GM mills... guess it's time to get with the times... :doah: :haha:

LS isnt really crazy involved. Its not like its an over head cam or even a total bizarre redesign like Im guessing the new LT-1 is. Its a small block still. There really isnt many hotrodding tips to them that are specific to the motors. You just get more out of what you put into them.

and they are lightyears ahead of the old FI motors
I'm impressed by my 6.0 in my 99, (probably the weakest of the 6.0's)...not on a daily driver basis, but towing 10-12K I was impressed especially compared to my 95 5.7 and even the 76CC's 454...the only thing that had over the 6.0 was off the line grunt, but then it does have 4.10vs3.73 in the 99.
