LS swap checklist

That is call a drive by wire throttle body which you need the gas pedal for it work.

Well, the good news is I have the pedal. The bad news is I have no idea what it came out of then. It was labeled a '01 Tahoe.

Might be worth going back and getting the Vin off the truck you pulled everything from.

did you grab the contoller for the pedal as well? The engine harness and the pedal both plug into it.

Yeah, that's the TAC thing, right? I did get it. I will have to go back for the VIN when I head that way for work. I do know the 8th digit is a Z which is what was throwing me off. I found a site that said Z was a 4.6 TBI. Wiki said Z is the Flex Fuel engine. They had the truck marked 2001 but y'all and everything I read said they were DBC and this one is definitely DBW. Now I'm curious as to the year. Not sure if it'll make much difference but I'd still like to know. I bought some brushes and cleaner. I'm going to clean it up best I can then change gaskets and things like that. It'd be nice to be able to work on this thing and not get nasty greasy.

BTW, I just finished your build thread. I liked it. definitely going to be referencing it even though your's is 6.0 and mine is 5.3. The harness is the most intimidating part of it. And flashing the computer. Not even sure how to go about that one. Oh well, I'll get there.

Thanks, I hope it helps you out. I just put up my costs so that might help too.

The harness is scary but take it slow and have some place you can spread it out and it ain't to bad. pro tip: after you get the wire loom and tape off (use zip ties to keep it together still) wait for the wife to leave and throw the whole thing in the dishwasher. ;)

Bigblock72 flashed my PCM. You can contact him about it or there are several guys online that do it including here:

That'd be difficult. My wife IS my dishwasher.

And no. She is not here and doesn't read my "truck stuff."

I'll have more questions I'm sure but I'll have to do more reading so I don't ask questions that have been answered dozens of times.

Ask away when you get to it. Start a build thread too. Lots of guys have done the swap with varying levels of experience. I'm sure you'll get the answers you need.

Your steering box will have to be replaced by an 1981 box or newer, it's simply the same box with a different style fitting that is still used today and the LS power steering pump lines will bolt in to the 80's steering box.

What year steering box can I use that will fit an XJ shaft?

Ashman, I got the VIN.

According to this it's a 2003. It was mislabeled at the yard. The computer, TAC module and other things told me 2003 and now it's been confirmed. Good call.

Good luck with your build, looks like you've got a good start! Did you have your choice of motors, looks like that one has a ton of miles.

No I didn't. Only 3 on the lot and one had cracked heads and the other wasn't complete. I'll be going through it to freshen it up.
