LSD in the front?

This might be a stupid question, but can a limited slip from a rear 10-bolt fit a front 10-bolt? I want the added traction of a locker, but i also don't want to bust axles. I run 35x12.50's in the mud, trails and ocasional small rock pile.

I always see rear 10-bolt LSD's on ebay for cheap. If they work on the front is there anything i should stay away from?

i could be wrong, but I think 10 front and 10 rear parts don't interchange

10 bolt carriers are the same front/rear. The only thing to watch out for is the early 10 bolts are 28 spline and the later ones are 30 spline.

Nope center guts will fit . Use the bearings for your particular carrier , they can be had in 28 or 30 spline . The axle ends are obviously different due to the hubs and rotors , and the cover is different due to the u-bolts on one corner . All else in the center is the same .

I wouldn't really want to run a LSD in a front personally , it can grab suddenly when you are on it , and break stuff .

I'm pretty sure that i have a 28 spline, but i'll have to verify before buying anything.

So would i be saving axles by going with a lunch box locker? I understand that there wont be the sudden shock that comes with a LSD suddenly catching, but aren't the clutches in a LSD suppossed to slip before breaking an axle?

Hard to really say whther you will break an axle with anything . I prefer a locker , and I run one . A limited slip will slip , but it can also all of a sudden grab .

I've never seen a LS suddenly grab :dunno:

Unless you are thinking of a gov-lok

A locker will be harder on parts than a LS.

Sorry , I am always thinking rocks . He is in Florida , and has a pretty truck , LSD will be fine for mud :thumb:

Who you calling pretty:mad:.:D Yeah here it's mostly mud and roots. The only rocks we crawl will be construction sites and the occasional man made rock crawling pit.
