lt1 question

hi everyone i'm currently building a 92-94 lt1 motor, the crank, pistons and cam are already installed by a previous owner...the block has been the machine shop and received new freeze plugs, i am not sure if the block off ball plug in the rear main cap was installed, is there any way for me to check without removing the cap?

any help will be greatly appreciated

Yes there is. You can stick a metal rod down the rear oil pressure fitting. The one at the back of the intake.

Note the length,

I have a block with where I can check to see what the distance is with the plug. It will be tomorrow before I can give you a length

okay thank you, i wont be doing any work on it till either tomorrow or the day after so waiting isn't a problem, i appreciate the help because i REALLY don't want to pull the cap off haha

I did that one time.

The 1st time I did my own cam bearings and plugs I didn't even knowbabout that one. (the machine shop knocked all the old ones out)

Then I was sitting on the craper months later reading some random artile in car craft or hot rod and they said "don't forget the plug under the rear cap" and I said www sh1t. So, needless to say, I ended up pulling the cap after checking the way I told you

yeah same here, i was speaking with my old boss yesterday who build drag cars, gas/ethanol, to double check if everything was correct so far, (he didn't even know about the ball plug) i also picked up "how to rebuild small-block chevy LT-1/LT4 Engines" the same day and was like "what the h3ll is that thing"

Well Crap, just got home and realized I forgot to measure. I'll get it tomorrow

Haha its good, i had to baby sit yesterday so i couldnt do anything to the motor anyways
