iv been reading up on these old military trucks and it looks like a good deal from a army surplus stores. from what ive seen its anywhere from 2000-4000 for a m1008 in good condition. i was thinkin about one for like 2500 bucks or so for a dailey driver. they seem like a pretty reliable truck for that amout. they usually have 35 to 45 thousand miles on them. what do you guys think about dailey driving a m1008

my dad was in the marines and he said by the way he and others drove those rigs he would never buy one. With that said im lookin for one to do a 6.2l swap out of :).

haha yea i was thinking about that, but i read up on the 6.2 and i know it doesnt make any power and isnt really fast but i just want one for driving a couple hundred miles a week. and from what ive herd and read they get mid 20's mpg thats the main reason i want one

exactly my thinking. Just gotta get 2 grand to get a asthetically ****ed m1008 so i can swap out the drive train

is there anything diffrent between the m1008 and a k30, i know it say they a 5/4 ton trucks but it has the same axles as a k30, does it just have stiffer springs and thicker frame or what

this is like the opposite of most the trucks on here but what i was thinking is buy a m1008 and rob the dana 60 frome the front for my wheelin truck, put bigger tires on it with like 3.73 gears and make it my daily driver, the tallest tire would be a 33''

for a daily driver, i suggest an M1009. I daily drove mine for a good long while and loved it. Especially if you are doing highway miles, the 3.08 gears are great. It does have a rear locker, but its a gov locker instead of a detroit. They have a bad rap for wheeling and big tires, but if youre doing no more than 33's and street driving (same setup as my rig) its an excellent diff. I even towed a few UPS trucks out durring the big blizzard here in february with it, and it didnt asplode.

Only reason im not daily driving the truck anymore is i got my diesel jetta, and it makes alot more sense to do my 50 mile daily commute on about a gallon of fuel, instead of 2.5 gallons. not to mention the jetta is acceptable parked at work at the audi dealership, they frown on the blazer. :D

for a dirt cheap budget build daily driver, id love to see the mileage an M1009 on 33's with a NV3550 swap would get.... just sayin .

awww come on, the blazer is basically a regular cab short bed.... without a divider. :D

well, if you like the idea of the crusing gears, and 33in tires, id be happy to trade you the 1/2 ton axles, wheels, and tires off my M1009 for the 1 ton axles out of the M1008 after you buy it :deal:

i call second dibs on this deal:D ill even throw in a bunch of broken 10bolt shafts:wink1:

haha well thats a tempting offer but ill be robing the dana 60 for the front of my other truck, and the rear will prolly just chill in the m1008 just cuz, but if anyone has a 8 lug 44 or 10b ill take it off your hands for free haha

does any one have any pics of there m1008 or m1009 that they dailey drive, im just curious as to what they would look like as a streetish truck. if you can post them so nonmebers can see them it will be very appreciated

This was six years ago when my M1008 was my DD 6" lift 36" tsl radials

This is my M1009, camping trip pic, stock suspension (actually probably lowered about .5-1 inch in the front due to worn out front springs bending the wrong way), riding on 33in MT-R's.
