Hi again,

as I made some progress with my 6.5 engine w the 4911 pump I really have to make plans about wiring the engine.

I have an offer for a normal k5 harness in quite good shape or a m1009 harness in really good shape.

To what extent are these harnesses different, I think the m1009 has a 24V starter but I think that should be fixable?!

My second question is about the harness in general:

I want to keep the truck as simple as possible, controlling the glow plugs manually... :waytogo: so no need for a glow plug controller

As far as I figured it out I just need to wire following parts:

-starter (of course ;-)
-glow plugs
-Oil pressure sender (in the engine valley)
-temperature sender (on the water crossover)

:D am I right or am I right:D

btw:

does this alternator fit? there's space for some connector but as far as I can remember the cables on the older models where just bolted on.

and here's a pic of the engine, looking quite sweet! new bolts/new mainfolds and some paint and powdercoating.

It's only a 98 506 block but it only has 50k miles and should hold up quite fine in my lightweight k5

I would switch to the civilian wiring harness if your going 12 volt and plan on using that particular alternator. The M1009 wiring harness has 2 alternators to get 24 volt and a few other minor differences you won't need.

Hey,

thanks for your help! I spent some more time with the harness and it really seems doable, one just needs some time to get out where all the stuff goes & plugs in!

The M1009 harness I wrote about was on ebay.com,

I tried to find it again but it somehow disappeared, maybe the listing has ended.

If you need some rare stuff just try out ebay.com once and a while, just search for m1008, m1009 or cucv, there is a lot of NOS stuff out there. I got me a couple of very rare parts for a few $

BTW: I'm getting a very good engine harness from a 89 silverado the next couple days,
if I do not need it I can ship it to you without any problems.

I'm selling a lot of chevy k5 stuff over here on ebay,

shipping is between $ 20 - $ 40.
