anyone out there have any pictures or info of the gun rack design and how the tubes that hold the front recovery shackles attach to the frame. any info would be great.

The tubes on both ends bolt up to existing factory holes in the frame. Note that the 81-up frame is fairly different than the 73-80, so if you're trying to use the tubes on an older truck you'll need to do your own drilling.

The rifle holders, such as they were, were two rectangles of sheet metal formed and spot welded to the floor, and then the two twist-holders up top. These were just behind the driver's seat and shoulder belt. The photos I took when I bought my M1009 aren't very good, but they're a start. Looking towards the rear, driver's seat on the left, shoulder belt on the right:

And from the rear we can see the twist holders a bit better:

The only pic I have of the front tubes is from straight on, so it's not real helpful, but at least gives you an idea (and it's with the bumper off):

I was installing a Warn receiver hitch on the front at the time.

I'd offer to take more pix, but I no longer have the truck. Sorry :(

ya man, those are great pictures recored time too. those recovery shackles they had plate steel on the outside bolted to the frame with the tube in the middle right? was anything welded or just bolted? is or was there any support between the two recovery points some sort of rod or tube to keep the frame from pulling apart besides the bumper?

CK5 is a tremendous resource. You may find yourself a paying member in no time :deal: And it's too cold and wet outside for me to work on my trucks, so I'm webwheeling :haha:

Anyway, yeah, there was a formed plate, maybe 1/4" or 5/16", and it and the tube bolted up to the frame, no welding. There wasn't anything between the two, save the stock frame crossmember (or in this particular case, the aftermarket receiver :D )

I would characterize the factory M1009 arrangement as great tie-downs for a trailer, and okay for straight recovery, but subpar for sideways pulls.

The shackles are nice, though, and I have them on each end, welded into homemade bumpers on my '74...

damn never really thought about those being just tie downs

Yeah, well, a foot of square tube isn't strong enough for them to be airlift shackles like the HMMWV's have.

The data plate has some details (pic linked rather than pasted 'cuz it's not resized, fricken hooge!) basically implying the shackles are tie-downs if the truck is palletized for airlift.

Do you have an M1009, or are you trying to put the shackles on a civvy K5 (if so, what year?) or what?

dang that link didnt work. ya i got a 78 blazer its got the chrome bumber with the uprights i like the look dont really want to get rid of it. and a front reciver aint my style but i like the look of those recovery shackles but if a guy cant pull sideways from them its impractical. guess i should stop calling them recovery shackles. dont know what ill do??? seems regular tow hooks will have to do. just hate when your getting slingshot a guy always has to reset the strap. and they dont look as bad ass.

Link fixie. I made a fscking n00b mistake :haha:

Nothin' personal, but the factory bumper isn't set up for serious recovery anyway. It's thin and they bend just with impacts to fences. Ask me how I know :doah:

As mentioned, the shackles proper rock ... just the mounting for them isn't great.

Plus you'd have to cut holes in your bumper and modify the mounting tubes, 'cuz your truck is pre-'81. I did it originally to my '74, but it took some doing, and in the end, I went with the custom bumpers.

Anyway, information for you to chew on...
