What range should I be expecting while looking for a good condition M1009 with minimal rust from a private party?

Been prowling craigslist and see ranges all over the map.

Just missed out on a real nice one needing a radiator and pass rocker panel. $1200. Sold 2 days before I got there. Lot of PD departments will be getting rid of theirs soon as the hummers are getting out there to them. Watch for local municipal auctions. There are 3 here in my town that are coming up. One is moderate in rust but repairable. They say after it sits it won't start without bleeding the fuel filter. AIR LEAK SOMEWHERE:whistle: but I'm not going to tell them that. Supposed to come up for auction in a few months. Will make a nice plow truck and I already have the Fisher plow complete for it.

They have been rising in price the last few years especially here in CA. They have gone from being $2500 rigs to $4000-$6000 for ones in 'nice' shape. As nice as a stripped down, under powered K5 can be. Only way I would buy one is to swap out the diesel and put in a gas motor but still title it as a diesel to avoid emissions.

Most of the nice ones have long since left the military. Most of whats popping up in the auctions are pretty beat up

I'm not talking the Gov. auctions but the local PD, FD, Town auctions all over. They got trucks that were not run through the Gov. liquidators but offered to municipalities for free. They just had to go pick them up. These were the best vehicles left out there that the military hadn't sent for public auction. It would kill you guys to know how many super nice trucks went for target practice.

Our PD has 3-4 M1009's and 4 M1008's that are mint. I tried to buy one of the M1008's about 2yrs ago that had no motor, trans, transfer because I had the whole power package. They took the body and have left it in the yard. I'm still hoping. Tailgate was missing and crappy interior but body was absolutely mint. The pickups they got were all navy or Air Force trucks from local bases. One came out of groton sub base with less than 8k on it.

The one I just missed was from a RI PD. They had two and both were very nice. One was driving and the other needed the radiator and misc. small items which I had all of. Got a lead on another one right now that is in very good condition. Guy called me back and now I'm waiting for him to call me back. Will post what I find.
