Hey all I'm a rooke when it comes to Diesels and have a coulple of question what is the difference between a "C" and "J" code engine and which is better? Also I've heard that the 6.5 turbo is a direct bolt on for a 6.2 because the Banks Kit is out of my price range at the moment and will be for a long time. Any help will be greatly apprectiated! :1zhelp:

C code is the light duty 6.2L with an EGR valve, J code is the heavy duty 6.2L without an EGR valve, and a slightly different injection pump (timing changes mostly). I believe there is a 15 horse difference between the two engines. Being a military K5, I believe your engine should be a J code.

The 6.5L turbo does bolt straight on, but the exhaust is very troublesome, down pipe exits directly into your frame rail. I ran my exhaust outside the frame to deal with the problem. Also, if your truck has AC (doubt it being a military rig), the turbo sits nearly in the center of the housing on the firewall (no clearance issues without AC)

Your M1009 is a 'J' code 6.2L. One thing to remember as a CUCV we are running 2 batteries and one of them is close to the fire wall on the passenger side. I have not installed a turbo on mine, so I do not know how the clearances will be.

Please remember that your CUCV is not a CIV 6.2 'J' code, there are some differences like the glow plugs.

Hope this helps.

(they are great rigs... I love mine)

I do not know, I think you will have some issues with the turbo and where your batteries are on the CUCV. Also the wiring will need to be changed based on the glow plugs, the CUCV uses 24v to the glow plugs.

So yah you will have some mods to do... nothing crazy but some work.
