I just got the estimate for all my short block work and decided to do some research on pricing to see how my machinist compares to other high perf shops, and found this pricing guide from a hi perf machine shop.

That seems to be on par with what I've been paying. Except the hot tank. Place I use charges $40 to tank/mag a block.

I looked on the list but didn't see it...what would be the going rate for drilling out a broken rocker stud and installing a new one? I keep meaning to call the shop that I bought my cam from but keep forgetting.

In the shop i owned i would charge $25.00 to remove the broken stud then the cost of the replacement stud and depending on customer attitude i would probably install the new one for free (assuming a factory pressed in stud). Worst case is i would charge an additional $20.00 to properly install the new stud. So in total someone would be looking at spending roughly $48.00 to remove broken stud, supply new stud, and install new stud.

Keep in mind that it is alot of work to set-up a head just to do 1 stud so i would suggest at that point to have screw in studs installed and i charged $150.00 to do a pair of heads and the customer supplies the studs (and guide plates if so desired).

I couldn't get the head list to copy like the other lists.

most of those prices are within +- $10 of what my machinest charges in socal.

Mine too....overall the total from my machinist was about 100 cheaper than pricing everything from these lists.

Thanks for the info...I appreciate it. Would like to do the screw in studs but just don't have the money right now. I guess it will just have to sit and wait.
