Maching Aluminum 16.5’s to a 16” ???

Yeah the cast wheels is probably a non starter, but a good forged wheel like a Weld should be doable right?

I'd talk to a few pro's before going ahead. I'd think forged would be do-able, but I've never welded forged aluminum either. I have welded cast aluminum, and based on that I would never weld a cast wheel even a little. I just don't know enough about forged aluminum, other than it's strong as hell. I would worry about taking the temper out of the material with that much welding. AL is finicky...

I certified on a 6061 AL unlimited thickness MIG procedure many years ago. The biggest issue was overheating the material and taking the temper out of it. So easy to do, and no visual indication that you are overheating the material. On something as large as a rim I think it would probably be easier to manage the overall temp of the rim, but again I'd rather defer to a pro that has some more current experience than I do.

Lots of guys like those wide, 8-lug, slotted rims(getting hard to find). You could probably sell them for enough to just buy the right rims without endangering yourself and everyone else on the road. My $.02 worth.

Well they don’t make the wheels I like in any other size ,

actually 16.5 and 16 wheels are 16" the difference is the bead, safety bead and 5* taper on 16". 15* taper bead on 16.5
The question is which part of the diameter is actually 16". Is it the top of the taper section or the bottom? If it's the bottom, then the 16.5" has extra material that could (potentially) be removed. If it's the top of the taper, then the 16.5 wheel is already undersized. Someone somewhere must have done the math for how much material needs to be removed.

Trail Worthy Fab offers brand new MT tires which are designed from the Goodyear MT but slightly different. I think like $250 per tire. And of course they still sell take offs of 16.5" military tires also. That's if you're in the market for 37's.

I have some , I would like a better choice . Even swiped those MT’s bring the suck on ice
