Mad Remote Starter Solenoid

Looks to be a Ford style solenoid with some wiring. About the only thing special is the tab that "jumps" the solenoid on the starter. I think you could piece together a system for the cost of that one.

The main reason I don't like that style setup is, you still have the solenoid on the starter. Which can still get heat soaked. I think the main reason people switch over to the Ford style is they think it will help this. While I won't argue that it doesnt help some...there are better solutions. Usually the cables are replaced when this is added, and that was all that was really needed.

A better fix would be a heat shield or a mini starter.

I use one with a mini-starter. Works well, no heat soak issues.

I've had all kinds of problems with starters and solenoids over the years, and I gotta side with Toomany on this one.

I put Delco starters on my trucks, a heatshield on the solenoid, and good wiring, and lo and behold, I don't have problems. Sure, you CAN do something more complicated and/or expensive, but why? ;)

If you have a crazy high-compression motor, maybe you need a fancy starter, but my pumped big-block, headers and all, turns just fine on the Delco, and even in California summers of 100*+, it starts up every time.

Headers and slow offroading put a lot of heat into the starter in my case. Running a remote solenoid and heat wrap are preventative measures. I've not had issues on my current rig but have had problems in the old days with BBC's running the large style starters.

I agree that you could piece together the same thing for less $$$ (In fact I think I have a couple of Ford style solenoids in the garage somewhere). One of the main things that interested me was not having the big starter wire hot all the time.
